Success of a graduate of the Set Design program at the University of the Arts Poznan in a nationwide scenography competition

On Friday, March 13, 2026, the award ceremony for the 5th edition of the competition Best Set Design Diplomas of Art Universities 2026 took place at the Henryk Tomaszewski Theatre Museum in Wrocław.

We are proud to announce that the third prize, awarded ex aequo, was won by Rozalia Schwarz, a graduate of the Set Design program at the Faculty of Interior Architecture and Set Design of the Magdalena Abakanowicz University of the Arts Poznan. Her awarded project, “Cabinet of Faces,” inspired by the short story “The Debutante” by Leonora Carrington, was highly praised by the competition jury.

The supervisor of the awarded project was Prof. Piotr Tetlak.

The jury recognized the project for: “its thoughtful design and consistent realization of a coherent world that strongly stimulates the imagination.”

The award is an important confirmation of the high standard of education and the quality of diploma projects in the Set Design program.

We warmly congratulate the laureate and her supervisor and wish them continued artistic and professional success.

We celebrate student culture, but not only that. We value the history of Juwenalia, a space where everyone can find their place. Because Juwenalia are created by people – us, the artists on stage, but above all, you – dancing right in front of it.

Juwenalia is a collaboration between the Council of Student Governments of Poznan Universities and the One University Foundation. Energy and experience, freshness and responsibility come together to form one cohesive organism.

Our goal is to ensure that every element of Juwenalia, from concerts and festival zones to organizational activities, runs smoothly, safely, and with full commitment. By planning together, we combine the foundation’s experience with the energy and perspective of students, creating an event that brings together thousands of people every year.

As a united team, we make sure that each day of the festival reflects the best ideas, skills, and passion – allowing Juwenalia Poznan to grow and evolve, offering participants truly unique experiences.

In 2004, on stage, the Goo Goo Dolls perform “Iris.” Beneath the silhouette of the singer, a sea of hands, not raised phones, not flashes, but fingers reaching toward the sky, as if everyone wanted to touch the music resonating in the air.

This memory evokes not only emotion but also a longing for times when music was felt in the body and perhaps even deeper, in the soul.

Open Call: “Stories of Place 2” – International Comic and Graphic Narrative Exhibition

The Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Granada invites the academic community of art institutions worldwide to participate in the second edition of the International Comic and Graphic Narrative Exhibition “Stories of Place 2.”

This open call is addressed to students, alumni, faculty members, researchers, and technical staff interested in contemporary graphic storytelling.

The exhibition is part of the ninth edition of BAG – the International Art Festival organized by the Faculty of Fine Arts in Granada. This year’s theme focuses on real people from any historical period, whose lives are connected to a specific place through experiences that may be strange, exciting, tragic, humorous, or deeply moving.

Participants are encouraged to submit short narratives in the form of:

- comics
- sequential illustration
- other contemporary graphic storytelling formats

The works should explore stories of individuals linked to places through the memory of their inhabitants or local communities.

The Faculty of Fine Arts in Granada has long been recognized as an important center for the development and promotion of comic artists. Through this initiative, the organizers aim to support and showcase contemporary graphic narratives and related research, while fostering new voices and innovative approaches to this artistic language.

The exhibition will open in Granada on May 8th, with the possibility of being presented later in other international venues.

OPEN CALL: Submissions for Planetary Realism

We invite you to participate in an exhibition taking place from 20 February to 15 March 2026 in the UAP Aula. The exhibition accompanies this year's courses at the Institute of Intermedia, which focus on the theme of the biosphere. Following Lynn Margulis and James Lovelock, the biosphere is understood as an active, self-regulating “superorganism,” in which all living beings are closely interconnected and interact as parts of the planetary system. The exhibition's title is inspired by Josephine Berry's book, which presents art as a tool for exercising imagination in the fight against apocalyptic end-of-world scenarios.

Those who wish to participate are asked to complete a questionnaire with details of the work they wish to submit. This could include a sketch of a piece to be completed by the exhibition opening, or a script for a performance, intervention, or other action. Submitted works should relate to the overarching theme of the academic year. They may explore issues such as biodiversity, interspecies cooperation*, natural processes, adaptation, and symbiosis, as well as activities such as agriculture, horticulture, and beekeeping, or man-made “models” of nature, such as greenhouses, botanical gardens, zoos, or national parks. This theme also embraces research involving new technologies or AI as part of a larger, complex system that regulates the biosphere.

The exhibition will take place in the UAP Aula, Al. Marcinkowskiego 29, Building A. Installation will take place from 16 to 21 February. The exhibition will open on Friday, 20 February at 6:00 p.m. and run until 15 March, and will also be presented during the UAP Open Day on Saturday, 7 March 2026.

The submission deadline is 2 February 2026. Works for the exhibition will be selected by the curatorial team: Sebastian Cichocki, Daniel Koniusz, Karolina Kubik, Krzysztof Łukomski, and Magdalena Starska.

*One possible approach is to present the results of this year's Postartistic Practices course assignment, which reads:

“Create a work of art in collaboration with non-human actors (wind, decay, bacteria, cat, moss, fermentation, condensation, spider, rot, drizzle, sedimentation, etc.).
Allow for chance.
Be patient.
Decide when the work is finished and ready for presentation.”
