Writing Centre UŚ

Writing Centre UŚ The Writing Centre of the English Philology Institutes at the University of Silesia in Katowice e.

The Writing Centre is a program in which a group of tutors (from among your lecturers and professors) offer you a chance to get extra guidance with your writing projects. Think of the writing tutors as experts working outside the relationship you already have with your lecturer or professor. In a one-to-one session, you can work with one of these tutors about almost any issue or challenge you have

in your writing. Any student in English philology is welcome to sign up for one of these sessions. There is no set format for the sessions and you are even encouraged to make your own agenda, but you can expect the following when you go to a tutoring session:

-A conversation about your paper and your writing process focused on improving both
-Writing assistance from someone other than your teacher, i. someone who will not give you a mark
-Feedback on issues like clarity, organization, and the strength of your argument
-Research and citation advice
-Instruction on how to proofread your own paper better
-Exercises and tasks intended to make you a better writer of English

Please note that the Writing Centre cannot and will not proofread or directly edit your paper or offer a prediction of the mark it will receive. We hold to high ethical standards concerning each writer's autonomy and responsibility for his or her own work, and therefore refrain from directly editing students' papers. We also respect each professor's individual judgement in evaluating students' work and thus cannot make statements about the objective value of pieces of writing.
