Artykuł po raz pierwszy syntetycznie przedstawia historię kontaktów Imperium Sasanidzkiego z regionem Morza Czerwonego między IV a VII w. n.e. Autorzy analizują materiał archeologiczny z emporiów Zachodniego Oceanu Indyjskiego, łącząc dane ceramiczne z zabytkami numizmatycznymi i innymi kategoriami znalezisk.
Publikacja jest efektem międzynarodowej współpracy specjalistów prowadzących badania m.in. w Erytrei, Jemenie i Omanie.

Check out a new open-access article co-authored by 🔸Dr. Emilia Smagur and 🔸Dr. Jerzy M. Oleksiak!

The article provides the first synthetic overview of Sasanian contacts with the Red Sea region between the 4th and 7th centuries CE. The authors analyse archaeological evidence from the emporia of the Western Indian Ocean, combining pottery studies with numismatic and small-finds evidence.
The research is the result of broad international collaboration with specialists working in Eritrea, Yemen and Oman.

📣Monografia wydawnictwa Peeters „Soba the Heart of Alwa. Volume 1” pod redakcją 🔸dr. Mariusza Drzewieckiego🔸 (CAŚ UW) już dostępna w Open Access!

📖Książka prezentuje wyniki badań archeologicznych prowadzonych w latach 2019–2022 w Sobie – stolicy chrześcijańskiego Królestwa Alwy - ok. VI–XVI w. – (Sudan).

🔬Interdyscyplinarne badania pozwoliły lepiej poznać organizację przestrzenną średniowiecznej metropolii i jej historię. Dzięki nim ujawniono nieznane wcześniej dzielnice miasta, układ ulic, cmentarzyska czy pozostałości ogrodów.

👉👀W monografii opublikowano również pierwsze badania etnologiczne przeprowadzone w Sobie, dokumentujące lokalne postrzeganie dziedzictwa archeologicznego tuż przed wybuchem konfliktu zbrojnego w Sudanie w 2023 roku.

📣🔸Dr. Mariusz Drzewiecki’s🔸 monograph published by Peeters Publishers „Soba the Heart of Alwa. Volume 1” is now available in Open Access.

📖The volume presents original research carried out between 2019 and 2022 in the capital of the Kingdom of Alwa (approx. 6th–16th century).

🔬These large-scale interdysciplinary investigations aimed to understand the spatial organisation of the metropolis, its settlement phases, and unknown city districts, street networks, cemeteries, and traces of gardens.

👉👀The volume also includes the first ethnological study conducted in Soba, documenting local perspectives on archaeological heritage shortly before the 2023 conflict.
