Thesis of a Spatial Planning student with awards in prestigious competitions

We are pleased to inform you that the thesis of Ms. Magdalena Ślińska, a student of the Spatial Planning program, received the 3rd prize in the competition of the Polish Association of Landscape Ecology (PAEK) for the best master's thesis on landscape issues and an honorable mention in the "spatial economy" category in the annual award of the Polish Town Planning Society (TUP) for a master's thesis in the field of urban planning, planning, and spatial economy defended in 2023.

Thesis title: "Fragmentation of urban ecosystems in the context of demographic changes in selected medium-sized cities of central Poland," supervisor: Dr. Eng. Katarzyna Rędzińska.

Join us and discover the fascinating world of science at the Faculty of Geodesy and Cartography, Warsaw University of Technology! 🌍

As every year, Festiwal Nauki is fast approaching. This year, the Faculty of Geodesy and Cartography, Warsaw University of Technology, has prepared a number of attractions, which we invite everyone to attend.

• The focal point of the festival events will be the Day with the Faculty of Geodesy and Cartography, with accompanying lectures and workshops. This September 21st! We invite you from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM in the Main Hall of the Warsaw University of Technology (Pl. Politechniki 1).
This is not to be missed!!!
• From September 22nd to 26th, we invite students to a series of lessons devoted to the rich topics presented at our Faculty.

Competition for Young Scientists Working for Climate Protection - Applications Deadline: September 15

A cash prize of PLN 30,000 awaits young scientists conducting research in the area of climate protection or mitigating the effects of climate change. Applications for the "Climate Person of the Year" competition are accepted until September 15.
This is the fifth edition of the competition organized by the Ministry of Climate and Environment. Awards will be given to individuals who work unconventionally and innovatively for the benefit of the climate and the environment and have achieved achievements in this area.
One of the three competition categories includes young scientists (up to 35 years of age) and is open to individuals with achievements in the form of scientific publications or completed research in the areas of environmental protection, nature conservation, sustainable development, circular economy, climate protection, mitigating the effects of climate change or mitigating and adapting to climate change, energy transition, green technologies, and related fields. Furthermore, candidates should demonstrate social commitment and promote science in the aforementioned areas.
A maximum of five original scientific publications or three studies can be described in the application. The evaluation will focus on, among other things, the diversity of methods and tools used in research, the practical application of research results, including a granted domestic or foreign patent or implementation of results in another form, as well as participation in research teams (including international ones), and the social and scientific value of the work.

Competition applications can be submitted by September 15th to: [email protected]. The winner of each category will receive a cash prize of PLN 30,000. Optional honorable mentions (PLN 10,000 each) will also be awarded.

Warsaw University of Technology Co-Creates CitCom.ai – Technologies for Future-Ready Cities

The Faculty of Geodesy and Cartography at Warsaw University of Technology is actively participating in the prestigious international research and implementation project CitCom.ai (AI Testing and Experimentation Facility for Smart and Sustainable Cities and Communities). This project is one of four European Artificial Intelligence Testing and Experimentation Facility (AI TEF) – a flagship initiative of the European Commission under the Digital Europe program. CitCom.ai is implemented by 34 partners from 11 European countries. It includes universities, research and development institutions, city organizations, test centers, and technology companies. Activities are coordinated by IMEC – a leading European research center in nanoelectronics and digital technologies, headquartered in Belgium. Warsaw University of Technology, represented by the Faculty of Geodesy and Cartography, plays a key role in the CONNECT component of the project, focusing on local infrastructure and the integration of cross-sectoral services. Work is being carried out at the Center for Geospatial and Satellite Analysis (CENAGIS), supported by modern computing clusters.

The project manager for the Warsaw University of Technology is Dr. Agnieszka Wendland. The research team also includes Prof. Dr. DSc, Eng. Robert Olszewski, an expert in GIS and geographic information modeling; Kamil Choromański, M.Sc. Eng., a spatial data analyst and AI solutions integrator; and Paweł Czernic, M.Sc. Eng., an expert in machine vision and spatial data processing. All team members represent the Faculty of Geodesy and Cartography at Warsaw University of Technology.
