Six years ago, Professor Ada Rapoport-Albert (1945-2020) passed away.
"Some years ago there came into my possession an offprint of one of the early studies in the Kabbalah by Gershom Scholem (...). On the offprint was a dedication written in Hebrew in Scholem's hand. Translated into English it reads as follows: 'Greetings to you from your faithful pupil Gershom Scholem the Jerusalemite' (...). I have often wondered to whom this dedication might have been addressed."
So begins Ada Rapoport-Albert's article, solicited by the American Scholar in 1983 and published in volume 54.4 (Autumn), 1985.
The offprint in question, letters from the AS editors, as well as materials Ada used for writing this article (Scholem's lectures, copies of his correspondence, book reviews, newspaper clippings, and more) are in Ada Rapoport-Albert's archive in our library (boxes 23 and 24).

Sześć lat temu zmarła prof. Ada Rapoport-Albert (1945-2020).
„Kilka lat temu weszłam w posiadanie nadbitki jednego z wczesnych artykułów o kabale autorstwa Gershoma Scholema (...). Na nabitce znajdowała się dedykacja napisana po hebrajsku ręką Scholema. W tłumaczeniu brzmi ona następująco: ‘Pozdrowienia od Twojego wiernego ucznia, Gershoma Scholema, jerozolimczyka’ (...). Często zastanawiałem się, do kogo ta dedykacja mogła być skierowana.”
Tak zaczyna się artykuł Ady Rapoport-Albert, zamówiony przez American Scholar w 1983 roku i opublikowany w tomie 54.4 (Autumn) w 1985 roku.
