The Cokí Racing Team (CRT) is a special project from the Department of Chemical Engineering where it participates in the Chem-E-Car competition hosted by the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE). Part of the competition is to design a small-scale car that needs to be powered by a chemical reaction and need to be stopped by a chemical reaction as well. The car needs to travel a fixed di
stance between 50-100 ft while carrying a specific load of water between 0-500 mL. The challenge lies that the exact distance and load are told an hour before the competition. The winner of the competition is determined by the team that makes their vehicle stop closer to the mentioned distance. This is a fast-growing team composed of Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, and Industrial Engineering students and now the team is hiring Business Administration students. There is no doubt that in a couple of years, the team will hire new engineers and applied sciences students from different disciplines. Moreover, the CRT provide the opportunities to those students that are searching for new experiences in their field and to those that are willing to take their skills and knowledge to the next level. At the same time, the students have the opportunity to learn from each other major since in the CRT everything counts. The team does not take into consideration the academic year or the GPA of the student, however, the team looks for those students with the courage, enthusiasm, and the desire to succeed, learn and give the best of them. It is a fact that members of the CRT have obtained their first internship or COOP experience due to the skills and knowledge that was gained by forming part of the CRT. Moreover, students who were part of the CRT are now working in companies such as an automobile, aerospace, pharmaceutical, oil & gas, chemical, energy, and among others companies. The CRT provides the necessary tools and guides to the student so they can accomplish their professional goals. Therefore, for this and many other reasons, students from the disciplines mentioned before should apply with no doubt to the CRT, having certainty it will be an enriching experience. The team makes cars, but they are actually building people for the best future.
