📢 From NOVA to Venice!

Are you a NOVA student ready to take on an international innovation challenge? Are you interested in Cultural Heritage?

Universidade NOVA de Lisboa is looking for students to represent the University at the EUTOPIA Innovation Challenges for Students — a four-day, in-person hackathon taking place at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice from 9–12 November 2026, where students will tackle real-world challenges set by an industry partner around the theme of Cultural Heritage.

🌍 What to expect?

Join up to 80 students from across the EUTOPIA Alliance, form multidisciplinary teams and work with local partners to develop innovative solutions to real-world challenges.

This year’s challenge focuses on Cultural Heritage, bringing together different perspectives, disciplines and ideas from across Europe.

💶 Travel is fully funded for selected participants.

✅ Who can apply? Bachelor’s and Master’s students currently enrolled at NOVA. Please note: students currently on Erasmus mobility are not eligible.

💡 From idea to impact — in just three weeks.

Yesterday, 9 teams took the stage at NOVA's Rectorate for the NOVA ImpACT! Challenges 2026 Demo Day, presenting solutions built to tackle the UN Sustainable Development Goals — the finale of an intense program packed with workshops, mentorship, and seed funding.

♻️✨ Final Demo Day of Circular inNOVA(tion) 2.0 ✨♻️

Yesterday, the final Demo Day of Circular inNOVA(tion) 2.0 took place at the Rectorate of Universidade NOVA de Lisboa. The programme, designed and delivered by NOVA Impact in partnership with the Sociedade Ponto Verde, brought together innovative minds to tackle real-world circular economy challenges.

The four finalist teams presented their solutions to a jury composed of Isabel Rocha, NOVA’s Vice-Rector for Innovation, Value Creation and Global Affairs; Tomás Ramos, Professor at NOVA FCT; and Luísa Pinheiro, Director of the Compliance and Innovation Unit at Sociedade Ponto Verde.

Congratulations to all the teams that reached the final stage of Circular inNOVA(tion) 2.0! The quality of the solutions presented was a testament to the creativity, dedication, and innovative spirit of our community.

A special congratulation to this year’s award-winning teams:

🏆 L.ai Holistic Management - composed of João Guilherme Martins Borges Sáàgua, Francisco Pais de Sousa, João Pedro Coelho, and Nuno Ventura - winner of the €5,000 first prize and now advancing to the final phase of the programme, where the team will pilot its solution with Sociedade Ponto Verde and other key stakeholders.

👏 Recapsule — received an Honourable Mention and a €1,000 prize, in recognition of its outstanding work and promising potential.

A special thank you to Valorsul, all the mentors and trainers who shared their expertise throughout the programme, and to Afonso and António from Trash4Goods for inspiring participants by sharing their entrepreneurial journey.

🚀 EUTOPIA_HEALTH Hackathon 2026 | Call for Applications (Deadline: 14 June)

We are pleased to invite researchers to apply for an exciting hackathon taking place from September to October 2026 in Lisbon ☀️

Four health-related challenges have been proposed by non-academic partners: Farmácias Holon, EVITA, NTT DATA and Testa & Cunha. Interdisciplinary teams of researchers at all career stages, including PhD candidates, will collaborate to co-develop innovative solutions addressing real-world challenges.

The hackathon will include three main moments:
• 16 September: Online session
• 16 September – 27 October: Online mentoring period
• 27–29 October: Onsite sessions in Lisbon

Using Design Thinking and other methodologies, participants will develop and refine ideas with continuous feedback from partners, aiming to improve citizens’ health and well-being.

🚀 Have an idea that could drive real change?

The NOVA impACT! Challenges are back — an initiative powered by the NOVA Impact Office to support innovative projects tackling one or more of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

If you're building a solution with meaningful social and/or environmental impact, this is your chance to take it to the next level.

Over three weeks (Jun 23 – Jul 13, 2026) selected teams will take part in an immersive experience that includes:

✨ 3 workshops - Social Entrepreneurship / IP Protection / Pitching Strategies
✨ Tailored mentoring from experienced professionals
✨ €500 in seed funding for the selected projects
✨ A final live pitch at NOVA’s Rectorate before a jury of academic and industry leaders

🏆 The winning team will receive an additional €2,000 prize to support the further development of their project and maximise its impact.

Who can apply? Teams of 2–5 members from any Portuguese university — students (all levels), researchers, and recent graduates (up to 5 years post-degree). Multidisciplinary teams are a plus!
