Schneidar Barbosa Guerreiro participated in the VII Congresso Nacional de Antropologia Forense (VII CONAF), held in Aracaju, Sergipe, Brazil, from August 17 to 22.

On August 19 and 20, she presented two scientific posters entitled “Entre o avançar da idade biológica e o dimorfismo: a influência da idade na expressão de traços cranianos em coleções osteológicas identificadas portuguesas”, co-authored with Maria Teresa Ferreira and Francisco Curate, and “Impacto do bloqueio da puberdade na estimativa do s*xo biológico: para além do dimorfismo binário na Antropologia Forense”, co-authored with Fernanda Teotonio Dias Troysi, Claudia Inês Parellada, and Angelika von Schmude.

📰 Archaeological fieldwork in Vila Franca do Campo, São Miguel (Azores)

Daniela Cabral is currently taking part in the archaeological excavations at the Convent of Santo André, in Vila Franca do Campo, São Miguel (Azores). As part of her PhD research, she is contributing to the excavation and study of newly uncovered burials in the chancel of the church.

The work was recently featured by Lusa and published in the newspaper Açoriano Oriental.

She presented the study entitled “Confiabilidade e precisão de métodos morfológicos cranianos em uma amostra da Coleção de Esqueletos Identificados Século XXI”, co-authored with Renata Castro, Maria Teresa Ferreira, and Francisco Curate. She was also a co-author of the study “Territorialidade, identidade e resistência: uma análise antropológica da Comunidade Quilombola Visão de Águia (Tocantins, Brasil)”, authored by Renata Castro, Maria Cecília Kayal, Cláudia Parellada, and Schneidar Guerreiro.

Yesterday, June 30, Félix Rodrigues defended his PhD thesis in Biological Anthropology: "O impacto do uso militar da Base das Lajes na Biologia Humana e na saúde da população da Praia da Vitória (ilha Terceira, Açores, Portugal): Análise das alterações químicas e paleopatológicas na primeira Coleção de Esqueletos Identificados dos Açores". The work was supervised by Professor Maria Teresa Ferreira, Professor Vítor Matos, and Professor Armando Mendes.
