Following extensive consultations with stakeholders and the international ICEGOV community, the organizers have decided not to proceed with ICEGOV 2026 on its planned dates of 28 September-1 October 2026.

This decision reflects our commitment to ensuring broad and diverse international participation while preserving the global reach, diversity, and impact that characterize ICEGOV.

The UNU-EGOV would like to express its sincere appreciation to all involved and thank the PC Chairs, Track Chairs and all members of the organising teams for their dedication, professionalism and collaboration throughout the planning process.

ICEGOV remains committed to bring together the global digital governance community and looks forward to working with all partners to identify the most appropriate path forward for a future edition.

The UNU‑EGOV is organizing an online session with the Women in Defense, Diplomacy and Development (W3D) from Harvard University on September 17th at 14h00 (Lisbon Time | UTC+1).

The event, titled "Digital Governance Reshaping Leadership in Today’s Geopolitical and Development Landscape", will be held online and moderated by UNU-EGOV Research Associate and Harvard Alumni Imen Ghedhioui.

The conversation with Delfina Soares, Director of UNU-EGOV, will address how digital governance is reshaping leadership in today’s geopolitical and development landscape.

🌍 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗮 𝗼𝗻 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲: 𝗮 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘂𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗨𝗡𝗨-𝗘𝗚𝗢𝗩

UNU-EGOV, in cooperation with United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, launched an initiative in the form of regional digital governance fora dedicated to advancing inclusive and effective digital transformation.

Three such fora have already organised their first meetings:

📍 The West Africa Digital Governance Forum (WADGov) met in Banjul, The Gambia, in September 2023.
📍 A similar Forum for South and East Africa (SEADGov), met in Pretoria, South Africa, in October, 2024.
📍 CADGov, for Central Asia, was launched in Samarkand in June 2025.

All of them aimed to bring together Governments and key stakeholders in these regions to tackle region-specific challenges and explore opportunities in digital governance.

Through research, policy advice, and capacity development, the new UNU-EGOV Strategy aims to advance five key strategic priorities, ensuring meaningful contributions to global governance challenges.

With knowledge and research at the core of our mission, we will be focusing on generating valuable research to promote inclusive governance and a sustainable development.

Enhancing capacity development and education initiatives in digital governance, especially in the Global South, is another of the Unit’s goals.

Acting at a global level also means building and strengthening global networks and partnerships with governments, international organizations, academia, and civil society. Through collaborative efforts, it will be possible to better address pressing digital governance challenges!

The UNU-EGOV Strategy 2025–2029 reaffirms our commitment to supporting the United Nations and its Member States in using digital technologies to strengthen governance and improve lives. 🕊️

The second Keynote Session of ICEGOV2026 features Zeynep Engin, PhD, a leading voice shaping the emerging field of digital statecraft and founder of several globally recognized initiatives, including Data for Policy CIC and the Data & Policy Journal (Cambridge University Press).

The Keynote will cover how digital systems are reshaping the foundation of public governance – not only as objects of regulation but as active instruments through which states deliver services, allocate resources, and exercise authority.

Engin will introduce digital statecraft as an organizing concept for public governance in the algorithmic age – distinguishing it from digital governance and arguing that the shift from one to the other is not merely terminological but foundational – and will also introduce the 10 Principles of Digital Statescraft, a normative framework for governing well in the algorithmic age.
