If you think 2025 has been a tough year, think of everything that has happened in the past 36 years, and yet the most powerful moment in Cluj’s recent history remains the Revolution of December 1989.
It was a moment of honesty and courage. A moment when people stood up to a collapsing communist regime and chose freedom over fear. And in those days, we also saw clearly who stood with the people, and who, within the army and the militia, chose to act against their own city. Only a few refused to turn their backs on Cluj and their own people.
We invite you to the premiere of the newly completed documentary created by Dr. Boda, a researcher at the Oral History Institute, Babeș-Bolyai University (Institutul de Istorie Orală Cluj-Napoca), offering a rarely explored perspective: the view from the other side of the barricade on 21 December 1989.
The screening of the first part of the documentary will take place on Wednesday, 17 December 2025, at Cinema Victoria, Cluj-Napoca: “Against Their Own City. 21 December 1989 in Cluj-Napoca.”
After the screening, join a debate on the repression of 21 December 1989 in Cluj-Napoca, with the film’s production team, revolutionaries, former members of the force structures, pupils, and students.
The documentary was created within the Blue4EU project to ensure these memories and truths remain alive and within reach for the younger generation.
