Faculty of Physics, University of Bucharest

Faculty of Physics, University of Bucharest Welcome to the official page for the Faculty of Physics at University of Bucharest.

The objective of this page is for students and alumni to connect to each other and to the faculty. The history of higher studies in physics, in Bucharest, began in 1864 with the establishment of the Faculty of Sciences, of the University of Bucharest. 1948 marked the splitting of the Faculty of Sciences into the Faculty of Physics and the Faculty of Mathematics. The Faculty of Physics later divid

ed, in 1962, into the Faculty of Mechanics and the Faculty of Physics. Beginning with 1974 the Faculty of Physics was moved to the Magurele Physics Campus, located south of Bucharest at about 10 km from the city center. A new building was then built to accommodate the number of students that studied at the Faculty of Physics, building that is still in use today. A complete campus was established including five buildings as living accommodations for students. The Magurele Physics Campus includes a number of research institutes which are in tight collaboration with the Faculty of Physics. Thus a number of opportunities arise for the students learning here, including future work places and possibilities to interact with the scientific medium and see what physics and life as a physicist is all about.
