GITIS Theatre hosted a day dedicated to the art of tap - its history, teaching methods, and role in Russian and global dance culture. The conference “From Teaching Methods to Stage Performance” brought together researchers, teachers, performers, and students.

A concert in Abidjan 🎭🇷🇺🇨🇮

Russian and Ivorian performers took the stage of the State Palace of Culture, presenting the results of a week of creative collaboration and a new dance piece.

The concert featured local artists together with students of the GITIS Choreography Faculty. Together artists also performed a lively combination of traditional Russian dance movements set to the musical mix of Russain and Ivorian rhythms.

The programme also included a performance by the renowned Ivorian dance group Aaninka, whose members had previously led a masterclass for our students.

GITIS is back in Côte d’Ivoire! 🎭

Our choreography team has begun work in Abidjan, where Russian choreographer Ilya Saushkin, a GITIS graduate and a teacher, is creating a new dance piece with Ivorian professional dancers.

The GITIS School in Ethiopia is launching! 🇪🇹🎭

The GITIS team is beginning a series of masterclasses in Addis Ababa. Faculty members Irina Avtushenko (stage speech), Aidar Zakirov (stage movement), and Alexander Barmak (acting), together with students of Alexander Barmak’s class will lead a training for the students of the Theatre Department of Addis Ababa University and professional actors of the Ethiopian National Theatre.

The programme also includes special performances by GITIS students at the Russian House, featuring musical and drama pieces based on Dostoevsky and Chekhov.

GITIS is taking part in the Bharat Rang Mahotsav International Theatre Festival in India!🎭🇮🇳

Students of the Acting faculty, class of Alexey Blokhin performed Maria Lado’s “A Very Simple Story” in Delhi. And it was met with warm applause and inspiring conversations with Indian audience and theatre professionals.

Check out a new project by GITIS graduates at the Russian Exhibition Centre.

Our alumni — director Oksana Pogrebnyak and actor Denis Stepanov, are working at a new creative space, the VDNKh Art Lab in Moscow. Their contemporary interpretation of Nikolai Gogol’s “Diary of a Madman” will be presented at the iconic Worker and Kolkhoz Woman Pavilion, home to the famous Soviet-era sculpture.

After two incredible editions, we’re launching the 3rd InteRussia Theatre Arts Fellowship. We’re calling on actors from BRICS+ countries to take on a 6-week Russian theatre school challenge

This fellowship is a unique journey into Russian theatre tradition: acting and stage speech training with GITIS teachers, visits to leading Moscow theatres, and a powerful exchange of professional experience with peers from around the world.

An unexpected stage interpretation of Alexander Pushkin’s prose. ✨

GITIS graduate director Pyotr Alekseenko presented “The Belkin Tales” at the Saratov Puppet Theatre. The production was created with students of the Theatre Institute of the Saratov State Conservatory and combines dramatic acting with expressive puppet theatre scenes, exploring Pushkin’s prose through a fresh visual and theatrical language

The Opera & Drama Studio of Ivan Popovski with graduates and students of the GITIS Musical Theatre Faculty, premieres Diary of a Madman. Gogol’s prose is a challenging material for the stage - especially for musical theatre. Yet this production transforms it into a theatrical journey where music becomes a full-fledged dramatic force. 🎭🎶

GITIS has just completed an educational programme across West Africa — in Côte d’Ivoire and Senegal.

In Abidjan, our first-ever GITIS workshop series brought senior INSAAC students and CNAC actors together for intensive training in acting, movement and speech — the first introduction to the Russian theatre school for many local artists. Meanwhile in Dakar, the GITIS Choreography Faculty carried out a full creative residency.

Two countries, two vibrant artistic communities — and one shared goal: building long-term cultural collaboration with the countries of West Africa.
