Plastic opens up great opportunities for designers. During the second week of training, the teams not only searched for ideas and made sketches but also learned how to process various types of plastics. The practice started by creating sheet blanks and experimenting with the resulting texture and filling. Also, students worked with an injector for casting volumetric parts into forms in Zerowaste.lab.

Пластик открывает широкие возможности для дизайнеров. На второй неделе школы помимо поиска идей и создания эскизов, команды освоили способы обработки различных видов пластмасс. Практика началась с создания листовых заготовок и экспериментов с получаемой текстурой и наполнением. Также студенты работали с инжектором для отливки объемных деталей в формы в Zerowaste.lab

As part of their training, SIBUR Circularity school students get acquainted with the full cycle of recycling and production, so the next stage of the practice is the preparation of materials for processing: sorting and shredding suitable plastics in Zerowaste.lab. Part of these materials were collected on the territory of the Higher School of Economics by Green HSE. Another part — packaging for cosmetic accessories made from recycled and primary plastic — was provided by AZIMUT Hotels. And this plastic is totally recyclable and reusable!

В ходе обучения в школе «СИБУР Circularity» участники знакомятся с полным циклом переработки и производства, поэтому следующий этап практической части школы — подготовка сырья для работы: сортировка и измельчение подходящих пластиков в гостях у Zerowaste.lab.

Материалы для школы собраны на территории НИУ ВШЭ организацией «Зеленая Вышка». Часть вторсырья предоставила сеть отелей AZIMUT Hotels — это упаковка от косметических принадлежностей, произведенная из вторичного и первичного пластика, который полностью пригоден для переработки и повторного использования.

♻️ The second week of the SIBUR Circularity School is over. So how did it go?

The opening of the school took place at AZIMUT Hotel Smolenskaya Moscow the Azimut Smolenskaya Hotel. It is an example of the implementation of the zero waste principle in the hospitality industry. Specially for Azimut, SIBUR has developed cosmetics bottles, which get recycled and then returned to the production cycle.

As part of their training, SIBUR Circularity School students are creating an art object for Azimut using the collected raw materials.

Where does sustainable design begin? With the selection and creation of sustainable materials. Therefore, on the first day of the practical part of the training, participants visited SIBUR Polylab Skolkovo, a unique innovation laboratory in which they experiment with polymers and demonstrate the possibilities of secondary materials in products.

♻️ Завершилась вторая неделя школы «СИБУР Circularity». Рассказываем, как это было!

Открытие школы прошло в гостинице «Азимут Смоленская» .smolenskaya. «Азимут» — пример внедрения принципа zero waste в индустрию гостиничного бизнеса. Специально для этой сети СИБУР разработал флаконы для косметических средств, которые собирают на переработку и возвращают в производственный цикл.

А участники школы создают для «Азимута» арт-объект с использованием вторичного сырья.

С чего начинается экологичный подход к проектированию? С выбора и создания экологичных материалов. Поэтому в первый день практической части курса участники посетили SIBUR PolyLab Сколково — уникальную инновационную лабораторию, в которой экспериментируют с полимерами и демонстрируют возможности использования вторичного сырья в продукции.

1️⃣ Today at 12 p.m. we will finally talk to Evgenii Khlebnikov from Precious Plastic Ukraine about his experience in plastic recycling and creating new objects.

2️⃣ Unfortunately, the lecture about Maker Society from Anton Artemchuk is cancelled and the educational program for Thursday ends at 4 p.m.

Students of HSE Art and Design School have concluded the course 'Robotics for Kinetic Installations' taught by Shukhov Lab experts and lecturers Anton Artemchuck and Dima Vesnin. This project-oriented course explores the potential of robotics as a performance tool and ways of combining conceptual art and technology. It includes classes where students acquire practical skills of creating kinetic sculptures and lectures dedicated to the history of kinetic art, machine choreography and animatronics.

At the end of December, the students presented their kinetic sculptures designed during the course.

Anton Artemchuck is a laboratory head and leading expert at the Faculty of Urban and Regional Development / Laboratory for Experimental Urban Design (HSE).

Dima Vesnin is an independent game designer, lecturer at the Higher School of Economics and Institute of Business and Design B&D, curator of The Games and the Future at 2x2 TV channel, participant of the 17th Venice Biennial (2020), author of the Telegram channel Backtracking.

'Robotics for Kinetic Installations' is a joint minor course developed by Shukov Lab and HSE Art and Design School (Школа дизайна НИУ ВШЭ).

The mass production cannot provide highly nutritious food, including fruits and vegetables. This problem is associated with a huge amount of time before products appear on the supermarket shelves.

🔍Andrés Gómez Mares, graduate of the Master’s programme ‘Prototyping future cities’, proposed to develop urban farming as a way to shorten food supply chains that would not need chemicals anymore for long transportation issues
🔍Andres developed the automated, smart hydroponic system ‘Food Unit’. It allows plants growing without soil, you need only water and artificial sunlight needed. It makes fruits and vegetables production easy and accessible for every household.
🔍Based on the analysis of needs and opportunities of Moscow families, the strategy for ‘Food Unit’ implementation was designed.
🔍Andres pointed that COVID-19 would have a controversial effect on the ‘Food Unit’ application: isolation can motivate people to grow food in their flats, but it would affect distribution negatively. Citizens might have no trust in local producers without regulation of food security.

What do residential areas and rural territories have in common?
Problems associated with isolation from the city center: marginalization, lack of public services, weak economy.

🔍Pablo Goldin, ‘Prototyping future cities’ Master’s programme graduate, conducted research on opportunities of 5G technology to solve these problems.
🔍Pablo developed a concept of mobile cell (‘Hybrid Telecomm’) that connects people for district or rural territory problems solving.
🔍Strategies for a residential area The Biryulyovo Zapadnoe District (Moscow) and The Bolshaya Tikhaya Village (Altay) with use of ‘Hybrid Telecomm’ were created.
