High education in Architecture began to appear in Siberia in the early XXth century. Civil engineers (architects) began to be trained at the building faculty of Tomsk technological Institute in 1909. The teaching staff consisted of Tomsk artists and architects in practice. And it was a new speciality for Siberia. Then, in 1930, there was founded a civil engineering Institute which moved to Novosib

irsk in 1933. At that time an architectural faculty was opened within the frames work of the Kuibyshev Civil engineering institute (Sibstrin) where specialists in architecture of residential, industrial and public buildings were trained. In 1930-50y the chair of architecture was headed by the famous architect of Siberia, Professor Kryachkov A.D. Also, there worked other well-known architects: Maslennikov V.S., Kuzmin N.S., Aschepkov E.D., Baritski F.F., Bolotin N.I., Kazakovtsev G.M., They really can be named as the founders of Siberian architecture school. On the 1st of September 1989 within the framework of architectural faculty of Novosibirsk Civil Engineering Institute there began to work Novosibirsk Institute of Architecture (now Novosibirsk State University of Architecture, Design and Arts). It became the forth special institution of higher education of such kind in Russia. Nowadays University trains specialists who can be qualified as “Architect”, “Design-Architect”, “Bachelor of Architecture”, “Master of Architecture”, “Artist in monumental-decorative art”, “Designer” in accordance with the Governmental standards of Russian Federation in higher professional education.
