The Department of Physics and Engineering of ITMO University originates from the International Research Centre of Nanophotonics and Metamaterials whose employees have been successfully carrying out research since 2009. Our team began as a small laboratory and has grown into a large scientific and educational organization in 10 years. At the Department of Physics and Engineering, over 20 research a

reas are being developed: nanophotonics, quantum optics, optoelectronics, optomechanics, biophotonics, radiophysics, new materials. More than 80 researchers with PhD and higher degrees and over 100 PhD students and employed Bachelor’s and Master’s students work in these areas right now. And the total number of employees at the Department exceeds 300! We follow the concept of “new physics” that represents the ongoing development of the Department: discovering new lines of research, a fundamentally new approach to educating students, an atmosphere of creative freedom, confidence in young colleagues, supporting personal growth of employees, and strong administrative team. We are in love with physics, and we are doing our best to be the best place for realizing the most creative breakthrough ideas!
