School of Journalism and Mass Communications is made up of two faculties, one specializing in journalism, the other in applied communications. SJMC has about 2000 students studying on its BA, MA and PhD programs. We teach journalism (print, TV, Radio, multimedia), media design, public relations and advertising. Our approach is to provide academic excellence along with high-level practical training

The 4th International conference ‘Comparative Media Studies in Today’s World’ will take place at School of Journalism and Mass Communications, St.Petersburg State University, Russia, on April 20, 2016.
In 2016, the focus of the conference is upon new and under-developed areas in comparative media research, as well as new methodologies of their exploration.
Please submit an abstract of 350 to 400 words in English to [email protected] by February 25, 2016. Please state ‘Conference 2016’ as the title of the letter.

Call for applications: Seminar in Hamburg
We invite students of the School of Journalism and Mass Communications SPbU to take part in the international journalism seminar on coverage of the topic of refugees “Flight for life” in Hamburg, Germany, which will take place from 9th to 14th June 2016 (travel dates 8th – 15th June). During the seminar participants will create multimedia stories in international tandems. The results of the previous seminar that took place in September 2015 can be found here: http://imch.eu/en/publications/dossier/eight_projects_on_the_topic_telling_the_story_of_refugees_in_hamburg/108/
The seminar is organized by Hamburg University for Applied Sciences, Senate of Hamburg in cooperation with St. Petersburg State University and Nothwestern University. The travel and accommodation costs will be covered by organizers.
