👍UrFU Rises Significantly in the Shanghai Ranking 2026

👩‍🎓This year, Ural Federal University has crucially improved its position in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), which is compiled annually by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy.

⚡️In the global standings, the university entered the 701–800 group, and in Russia it retained its fourth place – this is the best result among universities outside Moscow and St. Petersburg 🥳👏

🤩 12th International Summer School “Doing Business in Russia – International Startup Management” Concluded at UrFU

🌏 On July, 64 participants from 11 countries completed the 10 day programme on international business, entrepreneurship, project management, digital transformation, and cross cultural collaboration.

🏭 Participants also explored the Ural ecosystem: visited INNOPROM 2026 and the Summer at the Factory creative cluster (Sysert), and took part in the SUP Challenge team building event.

🗣️ The school ended with a Final Startup Pitch to a panel of academic and industry experts.

🌍🌇 UrFU Students Participated in the City Day Program

🏛️ 9 students of Ural Federal University from 🇬🇼Guinea-Bissau took part in various events dedicated to the 303rd birthday of Ekaterinburg, including the opening ceremonies of the celebration and the padel and 3x3 basketball tournaments.

🚗 They also visited an exhibition of retro automobiles which is annually held on this day.

🦡 Russian Scientists Discovered a New Extinct Species of Honey Badger

🇻🇳In a Tham Hai cave (Vietnam), paleontologists found a 200,000–300,000-year-old honey badger tooth — the first and only evidence of honey badgers in Southeast Asia.

🦷 The new extinct species was named Mellivora indosinica (Indochinese honey badger). The tooth description was published in the “Reports of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Life Sciences.”

🐅 The cave also contained remains of other predators — a hog badger, sun bear, Himalayan bear, civet, clouded leopard, and tiger. Intense competition likely drove the new species to evolve rapidly toward larger size and hypercarnivory.

🤩🇲🇳 UrFU Has Launched a New Stage of Cooperation with Mongolia

🏛️ On July 22, UrFU opened the international project “Professional Orientation of High School Students in Mongolia through Digitalization of Russian Language Teaching”. The Mongolian delegation included 40 participants.

✨ The ceremony featured creative performances by UrFU student teams and Mongolian guests, and the presentation of the video “I Choose Energy”.

🤝 The project aims to strengthen humanitarian, scientific, and technical cooperation between Russia and Mongolia and boost youth academic mobility.

🏛️🎉 Students from Serbia & Republika Srpska at UrFU Summer University!

☀️ This summer, students from Banja Luka, East Sarajevo, and Novi Sad joined the UrFU Summer University — a programme uniting youth from 16 countries for lectures, research, and cultural excursions in Ekaterinburg.

💬 One student, Sava Dodić from Novi Sad, shared: “I was most impressed by the walk along the Iset River and the visit to the Church on the Blood.”

🤝⚡️Cooperation with Serbian universities is a strategic priority for UrFU — and the Summer University is just one part of it!

🏛️ UrFU Summer University international project has wrapped up after two intensive weeks.

🌍 430 students from all over the world explored modern technologies, visited the Innoprom exhibition, toured local enterprises, and worked on real world industry solutions.

• AtomX (Russian track) — emergency tracker bracelet for NPP workers (pilot at Akkuyu NPP, Turkey).
