في سبيل خدمة لغة القرآن, والنهوض بتبعة شرف الانتماء إلى اللسان الذي حفظه الله بحفظ كتابه, تضطلع بلاد الحرمين الشريفين بمهمة نشر اللغة العربية، وتيسير تعليمها، ودعم قضاياها، وتحتضن هذه الرسالة العالمية معاهدُ اللغة العربية
في الجامعات السعودية، التي سطرت ولا تزال تجارب ثرية في مجال تعليم اللغة العربية للناطقين بغيرها...
وبين هذه المنارات العلمية السامقة، تأتي جامعة الملك عبد ال
عزيز، التي رعت إرهاصات مشروع تعليم اللغة العربية للناطقين بغيرها منذ ثلاثة عقود، وفي 24/9/1430ﻫ أصدر معالي مدير الجامعة الأستاذ الدكتور/ أسامة بن صادق طيب، قرارًا إداريًا بتشكيل فريق عملٍ لإعداد تصور لإنشاء المعهد، وفي غضون شهر تقدم الفريق بتصور شامل لمشروع إنشاء معهد اللغة العربية للناطقين بغيرها، فتلقفته أيد كريمة، أولته رعاية ظلت تحفه حتى صدرت موافقة مجلس التعليم العالي على إنشاء معهد اللغة العربية للناطقين بغيرها، بجامعة الملك عبد العزيز، في 26/4/1431ﻫ، متوجةً بموافقة خادم الحرمين الشريفين رئيس مجلس الوزراء رئيس مجلس التعليم العالي - حفظه الله - في 28/9/1431ﻫ.
ومنذ ذلك الوقت دأبت اللجنة التأسيسية بالمعهد على استكمال التصورات والتجهيزات اللازمة لانطلاق برامج المعهد.
وفي غضون ذلك أطلق المعهد أول برامجه في الفصل الثاني من العام الدراسي 1431 - 1432ﻫ: برنامج الدورات القصيرة لتعليم اللغة العربية للناطقين بغيرها من منسوبي الجامعة، وبنهاية الفصل الصيفي من العام نفسه كانت لجنة إعداد المناهج قد أتمت صياغة الخطط الدراسية للبرامج الأساسية وبرنامج الدورات القصيرة...

In the best interest of serving the language of the Koran and of enhancing the historic link of Arabic to the Islamic faith and heritage, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has undertaken the task of safeguarding and spreading Arabic throughout the world by means of an elaborate strategic plan involving the teaching of the language by specialized institutes affiliated with Saudi universities adopting updated curricula and programs spearheaded by qualified instructors using the latest techniques and methodologies. Among the institutions of higher learning that have embraced this philosophy is King Abdulaziz University, which for the last thirty years has accumulated considerable experience in the field of teaching Arabic as a foreign language This culminated in the establishment of the Arabic Language Institute. As a matter of fact, on September 14, 2009 H.E. Osama Tayyib, issued an admin order for the setup of a working group to draft a vision statement for the establishment of the institute. Within a month, the team submitted its agenda for a comprehensive project to establish the Arabic Language Institute. Eventually, on April 11, 2010, the Council of Higher Education issued the approval for the establishment of the Institute. This was sanctioned by a Royal Decree from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, and also by the head of the Council of Ministers and the Council of Higher Education on July 7, 2010. Since that time, the committee founding the Institute has worked on finalizing the project and on making available the equipment necessary for operations. The Institute launched its first program in the second semester of the Academic Year 2010-2011 offering a series of short courses for teaching Arabic as a foreign language to university employees. By the end of the summer term of the same year, the curriculum committee completed the first draft of study plans for core and short course programs.
