Därför är Seniorvärldskonferensen viktig

Sveriges befolkning blir äldre, inom 10–15 år kommer en fjärdedel vara över 65 år och före dess behöver hundratusentals nya seniorbostäder byggas. Boendena behöver hålla hög kvalitet i service och utformning och samtidigt vara tillgängliga för både de kapitalstarka och kapitalsvaga i åldersgruppen. Dessa ska också uppfylla de sociala behov som våra seniorer behöver och förtjänar.

Seniorvärldskonferensen 14 september samlar för tredje året i rad Sveriges beslutsfattare, politiker, seniorer och entreprenörer för att tillsammans diskutera och svara på en av vår tids mest angelägna frågor – hur skall våra seniorer bo? Här lyfts goda exempel blandat med engagerade diskussioner.

The last day at Fairwinds has arrived… And that is with mixed feelings! This opportunity has really been a once in a lifetime experience and both of us are so happy and grateful that we’ve had this chance! So it is with sadness in our hearts that we leave this place. During our stay at Fairwinds we have had the pleasure of meeting the loveliest of people, both residents and staff! I will truly miss them all and hope that I someday will come back, visiting the people that makes Fairwinds the Five Star Fun it truly is!

Today we had the opportunity to look into the Health and Wellness department at Fairwinds. The highlight of the day was to shadow the Caregivers working at the community. At Fairwinds you have two kinds of residents, Independent Living and Assisted Living, and there is no segregation between the two over the community. The extra care that you can get on Assisted Living is regulated on what kind of need you have and you can add or reduce the level of care at any time.

To see how the Caregivers work and takes care of the residents was a real joy! And furthermore, to see how the lovely people that we have had the pleasure of getting to know here appreciates and loves the caregivers and the help that they give them, that is something I always will carry with me.

Yoga in the morning is good for you, so Yoga in the morning it is! This senior adapted Yoga class is one of the exercises that is regularly offered at Fairwinds and of course we have to try it out.

Smooth and relaxed we continued with this day’s assignment, the New Employee Orientation. This is an education that all new employees at a Leisure Care community gets and it is formed to give an overall insight over the company and its core values. It covers all of the departments and they all have a chance to show, inform and educate about their units.

On the evening we joined the residents on the patio for a summer concert, which was a much appreciated end to the day!

At Fairwinds they offer a lot of different exercise classes to the resident. This morning it was “Sittercise” and we were there to join them. “Sittercise” is, as the name refers to, a class were you do different exercises while seated or with help from the chair for balance. This is one of the most popular classes amongst the residents.

Later it was time to explore the Guest Service department. This department contains of Housekeeping, Concierge, Transportation services, Activities and Prime Fit. Since we’ve already had been to the other parts of the department this day was spent with the housekeepers. But first, a game of Wii-bowling! Unfortunately for us, the residents at Fairwinds are very skilled, and ended up kicking our butts!

On our first and only weekend in Spokane we went downtown to walk around and have a look. We walked through the streets and "Riverfront Park" and then we took an Uber back to Fairwinds. On Sunday we joined the bus trip with the residents to go on their weekly "scenic drive outing", which took us a bit outside and to the countryside.

Unfortunately the smoke was heavy and, as you can see, obstructed the view a bit. But the drive is much appreciated by the residents and it is easy to see why.

This particularly smokey Friday started of at the Sales and Marketing department with Christa who heads sales at Fairwinds. She takes care of all tours and when someone is ready to deposit and (hopefully) sign a lease she passes them on to Vickie who takes care of all paper work and help the new resident to organize their move. She offers help with everything from selling their house to find movers.

After our meeting with Sales and Marketing we headed to a staff meeting for everyone. Hollie handed out their "star-awards" - a 10 dollar voucher for staff members who were nominated by either residents or other staff member for doing something special - and then went through general information about whats going on at Fairwinds and Leisure Care.

We were supposed to go "competitive shopping" to see a few other communities in Spokane and what they have to offer and how they differ from Fairwinds. Unfortunately the winds were blowing the smoke from the, now even bigger, fires in our direction so we were advised to stay inside. We ended up driving around to view the competitors from the car.

I ett samarbete mellan Leisure Care, Chalmers Tekniska Högskola, Hemsö och CLA Sweden AB har vi gjort det möjligt att ge ut ett stipendium att skicka två studenter från Sverige till Seattle för att besöka och studera för Leisure Care University i 2 veckor. Dels för att besöka huvudkontoret men även på en av anläggningarna för att få praktiska erfarenheter. För denna resa är det anläggningen i Spokane i delstaten Washington.

Deltagarna som åker denna gång är Alexandra Rydin och Niklas Arvidsson som valdes ut från ansökningarna från talangfulla studenter inom området för Affärsutveckling och entreprenörskap inom byggsektorn. De publicerar här löpande händelser och upplevelser från deras resa.

Aloha Hawaii!

This day has been all in the Hawaiian theme! This Monday some of the residents at Fairwinds will be travelling to Hawaii for vacation. So to get into the Hawaiian mood we started of early with a Hula Hula contest. When everyone felt smooth and happy after dancing it was time to get this party starting! Piña Colada or Mai Thai for everyone!

After a couple of drinks we continued the party into the dining room where they now were serving the most delicious buffet, Hawaiian style!

This fun and joyful day finishes off with entertainment, professional Hula Hula dancers that will show us contestant from earlier today how it’s supposed to look like!

First day at Fairwinds – Spokane

We started this day in the best possible way, with breakfast, Leisure Care style. As a resident at Fairwinds you are able to have full seated service at breakfast, lunch and dinner. From the menu you are able to pick your favourite of the day and get it served while seated. Their goal at Fairwinds – Spokane is to give a five star restaurant experience to their residents, every single time.

Full and satisfied it’s time to start the day. General Manager Holli gives us a tour around the community before it’s time to join Judi at the front desk. Under our time at Fairwinds we will be participating and learn from all of the different departments working on the community. So after a few hours seeing and experience the busy life as a receptionist at Fairwinds, it was time to join Heather, the concierge.

The first day spending at Fairwinds – Spokane finish off with dinner in the dining room, looking forward to what tomorrow might bring…
