New CeCAR-publication by Magnus Bergquist, Andreas Nilsson, Niklas Harring and Sverker Carlsson Jagers. A meta-analysis of determinants of public opinion about climate change taxes and laws, published in Nature Climate Change, showing that perceptions of distributional fairness is the strongest determinant, while medium-sized effects are found for both climate change seriousness and climate risk perceptions, and that all demographic variables had small or close to zero influence.
Although public acceptance is essential for effective climate policies, the underlying drivers are still not well understood. Now, meta-analysis results show that perceived fairness and effectiveness have the strongest relationships with support for climate taxes and laws.
