🔔 Welcome to the next MKV higher seminar! On Tuesday 27/1, our visiting PhD Candidate from Universidade Federal de Santa Maria , Márcia Zanin Feliciani will be presenting her doctoral research on ‘Mediatization, Circulation and Pop Culture: Appropriations by distinct social actors in the release of the film Barbie.’

🎀 In the seminar, Márcia will highlight her findings on how these appropriations from distinct social actors point to multiple struggles over meaning surrounding the film’s circulation. In one way or another, all these cases contribute to the promotion and success of Barbie, that is, to the reinforcement of its capitalist character.

🌐🌍 Igår hade vi MKV-dagen med spännande samtal och panelsessioner. Med temat “PLANETARY BOUNDARIES — MEDIA BOUNDARIES”, är MKV-dagen en temadag där studenterna får möta experter och före detta studenter.

🗣️ Vi började med ett panelsamtal med Jonathan Angel som driver podden The Decade, Sinan Akdag från Sveriges konsumenter, och Maria “Decida” Wahlberg.

🎓 Vi hade också ett panelsamtal med tidigare studenter från Medievetarprogrammet: Carolina Falk som just nu gör praktik på Ungdomsbarometern, Julia Westerberg som är Content Manager på Vattenfall, Hanna Julin som gör PR och strategisk kommunikation på Hidden Dreams, och Hanna Stolpe som analytiker på 2Secure.

🔅 This past week, research representatives from our department participated at the Media Frictions International Symposium hosted by ’s School of Education and Communication.

📑 Stina Bengtsson presented her recent work in the theme of Methodological Frictions for News Engagement, Liudmila Voronova presented on behalf of her research project group in the theme of news frictions, and Yanti Sastrawan presented her PhD project in the theme of Social Frictions.

🙌🏼 Thank you to the conference organisers for an insightful two-day conference with a great range of panel sessions and keynote speakers!

🚂🇸🇪 The TRAIN 2024 Conference took place this week at Katrineholm. The national network, TRAIN, hosts doctoral courses as well as annual conferences like this where scholars in media and communication studies research, including media history and journalism, gather to discuss their work and exchange ideas.

This year, doctoral students with varying topics presented their work including our doctoral student, Yanti Sastrawan .

Earlier today, Rodrigo Duarte presented his research work that he has been observing during his research visit at MKV Higher Seminar in . Entitled “Experiments with Drag Culture: Circulation of Drag Artists in Culture and the Reconfiguration of Practices through Mediatized Experiments,” Rodrigo’s presentation shows interesting similarities as well as differences of cultural dynamics between drag cultural practices in Sweden and Brazil.

Rodrigo Duarte is a guest Doctoral Student from Universidade Vale dos Sinos , São Leopoldo, Brazil.
