The Yippies walked through the Ekoleden trail today!

At the beginning of the program, we took the Yippies on the same trail. Through walking the trail they got to know the land, the different people and local initiatives, and each other. At the Lover’s Point they wrote letters to their future selves. Today, as they rested at the Lover’s point once more, they got to read the past letters they had written and the YIP year that has passed.

YIP has established a tradition of inviting each Yippie to write a letter to their future selves a year from now, which we send out to them once the time arrives. It is a reflective way to process departing from YIP and transitioning into new stages of life.

Though it is always a sad time to say goodbye to each batch of Yippies, in this way we are able to look forward to who they will become in a year and what initiatives may arise from them!

This is the last week of YIP18 and the last day to apply for YIP19!

Last Thursday marked the beginning of celebrating the end of YIP. During this week, we say goodbye in many different ways. There is time for reflection, time for gratitude, and time spent appreciating one another.

Throughout the week, we as a community partake in a vigorous deep clean, celebrations hosted by each check-in group, a walk along the Ekoleden trail that we completed at the beginning of the year, ending with an intimate closing ceremony that graduates each Yippie as an alumnus of YIP, and a wonderful feast!

To begin these celebrations, the Organizing Team hosted a fun quiz reviewing the past ten months of YIP! Each question reflected on what the Yippies learned from each course. There were standard multiple-choice questions, reenactments of lessons learned, singing, and even portrait drawing.

The Yippies returned from their Outdoor Experience yesterday!

Five nights and six days of camping in the Swedish outdoors. Paddling on canoes to different islands through the week, they braved through freezing pours of rain, ending the last days with some marvelous sunshine and still waters. During this time, we leave all mobile and time keeping devices behind and create a space of intention and reflection for each of the Yippies’ journeys. Throughout the years of YIP, the outdoor experience has become almost a rite of passage for each Yippie. As well as a beautiful time to spend the end of YIP together– a testament of the community they have built over the months.

We hope you experience a glimpse of their joy and the close connection they’ve built from some of these pictures taken from YIP18’s outdoor experience. ☀️

YIP is a 10 month, community centered, anthroposophical inspired, educational program, based in Ytterjärna, Sweden. The program aims to develop the social entrepreneurship skills of young adults (18 to 28 years old) from all around the world, by engaging their thinking, feeling, and will through different courses and by learning to live in community with one another.

Check out this video that Harrison (YIP18 participant) made for his personal initiative project! As YIP18 is beginning to come to a close, Harrison intends to build upon this video as he continues to digest his YIP experience. We hope this video showcases the highlights of 10 months living in community.

🏕️ YIP18 has now embarked on their outdoor experience! A long lived, canoe adventure, that is a traditional part of the YIP curriculum.

🛶 For 5 nights and 6 days, the participants will find themselves in the middle of the quiet Swedish nature. Paddling over deep, clear lakes, cooking over fire and wild camping in the woods, whilst digesting and reflecting on the year and being with one another.

✨ Here are some photo highlights from our outdoor experiences preparation, taken before their departure. The Yippies learned how to build tripods and cook over a fire, set up tarps and tents, and got acquainted with their camping gear and everything they need to know about the Swedish outdoors.

Here are some of the highlights from YIP18’s Personal Initiative Presentations!

Last week, all 33 of the YIP18 participants took the stage in front of the community and presented their personal initiatives. The personal initiative is a project that each participant works on throughout their time at YIP. In the spring term, they are given the time and space to work intensively on their project during the Self Designed Curriculum.

It is an empowering experience for the participants to be able to present to the audience what they have been working so hard on and care so deeply about. In turn, it was a beautiful and inspiring experience to be part of the audience and to witness what passions and big questions young people of this generation are holding, and what changes they can contribute to the world.

If you would like to know more about the presentation week, look forward to our next post as we sit for an interview with Rosie from YIP18!

🌏✨ Exciting News for YIP19 2026–2027! ✨🌏

We are thrilled to reveal that our next outpost will be in China! We will visit two different locations where we will dive deep into Eastern and Western dialogue through culture, philosophy, and practice!

📍 First Stop: Wudang MountainsOur journey will begin in the misty peaks of the Wudang Mountains in Hubei Province. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, this is the cradle of Daoism and the legendary birthplace of Tai Chi.

We’ll explore inner development, balance, and the wisdom of Yin & Yang through visiting ancient temples and engaging in various traditional practices.

📍 Second Stop: Xi’An
From the silence of the mountains, we shift to the vibrant pulse of Xi’An, a city of over 13 million people that perfectly embodies the meeting of ancient tradition and hyper-modernity.

In both locations, we’ll be joined by local Chinese youth, creating a vibrant space for cross-cultural learning.

Do you want to be a part of this exciting journey?

Applications for YIP19 are still OPEN! Apply by June 15th!

Context:
While we continue to explore the possibility of remaining in Sweden for the entire duration of the program, the International Outpost remains our current solution for ensuring accessibility to participants outside Europe. We continue to hold the complexity of our commitment to bring a high quality, inspiring and relevant program that meets the needs of our time, as well as our concern for what is ethically appropriate, reckoning with the implications of our choice to fly to a far away context and being awake to the privileges inherent in crossing borders.
We are very grateful for the sincere invitation from our collaborators in China. Having visited both initiatives, we feel a strong alignment in our mutual strivings and are confident this partnership will foster a meaningful, reciprocal exchange.
