Ever wondered what it takes to turn our teaching staff into an accidental renaissance painting?

Apparently it is unfolding original drawings by Kay Fisker and Aage Rafn, rescued from a trash bin.

Swipe to the last slides for a closer look at the extraordinary hand drawn details.

Design Diffusion — Young Talents

We are very happy to share that Four Chairs in Eight Days, a project by our student Oskar Nilsson, has been featured in Design Diffusion in their Young Talents category.

A big thank you to Prof. Claudio Gambarella, who discovered our university and our students’ work during our participation at Salone del Mobile in Milan and made this publication possible!

We are delighted to see Oskar’s project featured in Design Diffusion and to have our students’ work reach an international audience. 🌟

Between past and future, for place and material

We are delighted to congratulate our student Amanda Perols, recipient of the Sysav Scholarship for her thesis exploring inbetween use and the reuse of local building resources in Nyhamnen, Malmö.

Once defined by industrial activities, ferry terminals and harbour functions, Nyhamnen now stands on the threshold between past and future. In her project, reuse becomes a method of design. Working with materials already available in local material banks, Amanda explores how form follows availability and how the city’s material memory can continue into its future.

The project asks: How can meanwhile use of site and material strengthen one another?

Congratulations Amanda! ✨

Fantastic work by our postdoctoral researcher Gwendoline Schaff!

Her first project as Principal Investigator "Shared forms of housing for climate transformation: a systems mapping knowledge synthesis” has been awarded funding by Formas, a Swedish Research Council for Sustainable Development!

The project is a collaboration between the Department of Architecture and Built Environment Lund University represented by Ivette Arroyo Baquero and Gwendoline Schaff and RISE Research Institutes of Sweden represented by Shane Carnohan.

We are beyond proud of her great efforts and work!

URBFORM 1:1 Student Competition

The Municipality of Lund, VA SYD, and the Department of Architecture and Built Environment Lund University, Sweden invite architecture students to take part in URBFORM 1:1 — a design competition for new urban furniture for Campusplatån.

In collaboration with the SUDes Master’s Programme in Sustainable Urban Design, celebrating 20 years of teaching and practice in sustainable urban futures, the competition asks:
Can urban furniture help shape climate-ready cities?

Campusplatån will become a testbed for climate adaptation, exploring responses to flooding, water scarcity, and extreme weather.

We are looking for multifunctional, climate-smart and innovative proposals — where urban furniture becomes part of new systems for water management and urban resilience.

Open to architecture students at LTH in teams of 1–4 students.

• Registration deadline: 17 August
• Submission deadline: 28 August
• Winners announced: 22 September (Sustainable Urban Design Symposium)

Winning proposal will be built at Campusplatån + awarded:
• SEK 1,800 (Municipality of Lund)
• SEK 5,000 (Dept. of Architecture & Built Environment)
