The Swedish Academy of Realist Art was founded in 2006 as Sweden’s first school of fine art dedica

SARA provides the highest level of training in realistic drawing and painting using traditional techniques and methods of the Renaissance, 18th and 19th century European and Russian academies as well as contemporary methods. The education is a three-year program with a curriculum designed as a systematic progression that breaks down the complex and intimidating challenge of learning to draw and paint realistically from life into practical stages. Each stage requires that the student acquire and demonstrate specific skills before advancing to the next more challenging stage. Students progress in a logical, step-by-step fashion leading ultimately to free and confident painting in oil.

We believe technical mastery is the foundation of artistic freedom. Through drawing and painting, students develop strong technical skills while learning to think creatively, work from life, and explore their own ideas through imagination.

Application is open for Spring 2027!
