(SV) Medicinska Föreningen i Stockholm s Hållbarhetutskottet är en av fler än 200 organisationer som stöder klimatdemonstrationen - Häng med till Stockholm 23 augusti – Då fyller vi gator och torg, enade för klimatet! 🌍🪧

I helgen kommer två stora saker att hända👇🏼👇🏼

24 timmar för klimatet: Rebellmammorna, Rebellpapporna och Researchers’ Desk gör en gemensam aktion i ett helt dygn för att få upp klimatet på agendan. Start den 22 augusti kl 12:30 på Sergels torg.

Den stora klimatdemonstrationen! Naturskyddsföreningen, Rebellmammorna, Rebellpapporna och Researchers’ Desk är initiativtagare och redan har över 70 organisationer anslutit sig till demonstrationen, bland andra TCO och Act Svenska kyrkan. Målet är att fylla Stockholms gator med en färgglad folkfest – enade för klimatet! Samling 23 augusti kl 12:00 i Vasaparken.

(EN) Medicinska Föreningen i Stockholm ’s Sustainability Committee is one of more than 200 organizations supporting the big climate demonstration - Join us in Stockholm on August 23 - Together we will fill the streets and squares, united for the climate! 🌍🪧

This weekend, two big things will happen👇🏼👇🏼

24 hours for the climate: The Rebel Moms, Rebel Dads and Researchers’ Desk are holding a joint action for a whole day to put the climate on the agenda. Starts on August 22 at 12:30 at Sergels Torg.

The big climate demonstration! The Swedish Society for Nature Conservation, the Rebel Moms, the Rebel Dads and Researchers’ Desk are the initiators and we, with over 200 other organizations will join the demonstration. The goal is to fill the streets of Stockholm with a colorful folk festival - united for the climate! The climate demonstration will begin with a gathering on August 23 at 12:00 in Vasaparken.

💚SSD and PBC at KI Sustainability Day💚

As sustainability-focused student organizations, we had the honor of participating in KI's Sustainability Day on the 16/04 themed "From Plate to Planet: How Food Shapes Our Health".

Some highlights:
🌱 Members of .ki received the Student Poster Competition prize for a poster introducing the background, goals, theory of change and achievements of Plant-Based Campus.

🌾 PBC held a discussion table with the theme "Feeding Humanity: Industrial Agriculture and the Myth of Optimization", tackling how conventional large-scale farms compare with more ecological farming methods in terms of efficiency, biodiversity impact, and effects on human health.

🐖 SSD held a discussion table with the theme "Micro- and Macroorganisms: The Role of Animal Agriculture in Infectious Disease", shining light on how a plant-based transition would mitigate not only the burden of noncommunicable diseases, but also infections and antimicrobial resistance, of which zoonotic transmission is a major driver.

The event also included insights from the EAT-Lancet Report and studies on Intensive Clinical Nutrition, both of which highlighted the significant health benefits of plant-based whole foods.

Happy Earth Day! 🌍 Thank you to everyone who attended Community Visions for Tomorrow, our panel discussion on Wednesday where we brought together experts and advocates from different disciplines to build a holistic view of sustainable development and our role in it.

📈 We began the afternoon with Thomas Hahn from Stockholm Resilience Centre, who presented a very engaging crash course in Ecological Economics and shed light on how economics could be transformed to aid the sustainability transition.

🌱 Next, Asta Dahlqvist, representing , told the inspiring story of how a plant-based transition of our food systems could mitigate the climate crisis, and how student-led advocacy is driving this change right now!

🌍 She was followed by Nikolaus Mezger from KI's Institute of Environmental Medicine, who outlined the impacts of planetary crises on health, and how climate adaptation, mitigation, and resilience needs to be achieved in our health systems.

🏥 In our final lecture, Alma Nordenstam and Wurry Ayuningtyas spoke about a new project mapping neonatal mortality in Indonesia, constructing essential data tools for a climate-vulnerable setting and driving policy for adaptation.

In the following panel discussion moderated by Dunia Rozakis and Aminel Easho, speakers were joined by Fredrik Gröndahl, director of Blå mat, KTH; Phuthumani Mlotshwa, PhD candidate specializing in infectious disease diagnostics for low-resource settings; and Veine Haglund, Master's student in Education and Engineering and community organizer.

🤝 Throughout the talk, our speakers addressed present challenges in their respective fields and spoke about how change happens through research, partnership, advocacy, community engagement and democratic participation.

💚 We are incredibly grateful to our speakers for sharing their diverse knowledge and perspectives, and being sources of inspiration. We are also grateful to our organizing team for making the event possible and engaging. Finally, thank you to our audience for your engagement, and your questions that drove the discussion forward!
