Introducing Dialogues on Digital 2026: The Future of Food 🌱

How do we feed a growing population within planetary boundaries, prepare food systems for an uncertain world, and use innovation to shape a future of food that supports both individual well-being and public health?

On Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, House of Innovation ’s flagship event, Dialogues on Digital, brings together leaders and experts from business, academia, and entrepreneurship to explore the future of food across three sessions: sustainability, resilience, and health.

Three speakers have already been confirmed: Elin Jäger, Senior Vice President and Chief of Staff to the CEO at Novo Nordisk; Marika King, Head of PINC \(Paulig Incubator\); and Victor E. Friedberg, Founder and Chairman of FoodShot Global. More speakers will be announced over the coming weeks – follow along here on LinkedIn for updates!

What does success really look like, and how should organizations measure it?

Fortnox is committing SEK 50 million over ten years to the Stockholm School of Economics to advance research into what makes Swedish organizations successful.

The collaboration funds a new professorship and establishes the Center for Responsible Performance Measurement. The center will explore how targets, dashboards, rankings and key performance indicators shape decisions, priorities and behavior, as well as how organizations can balance financial, environmental and social goals.

Competition is often introduced to improve public services. But what happens when preparing to compete starts changing the organization itself?

This is the focus of a new study co-authored by Stefan Arora-Jonsson, affiliated researcher at the Center for Educational Leadership and Excellence (CELE).

Following a Swedish school over two decades, the researchers show how the expectation of competition changed leadership, priorities, and relationships with students - years before the anticipated private competitors arrived.

The findings raise an important question for education and public policy: when we introduce competition into public services, what else changes along the way?

🌹 When large flower farms arrived in rural Kenya, they didn't just create jobs.

Villages grew into small towns. Household wealth increased. And women became far more likely to hold stable wage jobs.

A new study by Menna Bishop, University of Warwick, Niclas Moneke, University of Oxford, and Celine Zipfel, Stockholm School of Economics and House of Sustainable Society affiliate, shows how a single large employer can reshape an entire local economy.

Using census data and satellite imagery, they find that the effects extended well beyond the farm gate, from population growth to changes in women's employment and fertility.

The findings suggest that stable wage employment in rural areas can be a powerful driver of long-term development, while highlighting the transformative potential of expanding economic opportunities for women.

Did you know that our building has a soundtrack? 🎶

To mark 100 years of our iconic home at Sveavägen 65, last year composer Andrea Tarrodi gave SSE its own musical voice – the first movement in a suite inspired by architect Ivar Tengbom.

Created with the Stockholm Concert Hall (, the new work Ars longa, vita brevis (art is long, life is short, if your Latin is a bit rusty) now joins our ceremonial life at the School. This project is a natural continuation of the School’s cultural profile, where visual art and literature already play a strong role.

What makes Sweden one of the world's most innovative countries?

This spring, students from universities across the United States and Singapore joined SSE for two weeks to explore exactly that through our Short Program, Driving Innovation in Society – The Swedish Context.

Through a combination of classroom discussions and company visits to organizations including Volvo Cars, Scania, Ericsson, Electrolux, and Karolinska University Hospital, participants explored innovation from multiple perspectives. Ranging from entrepreneurship and AI to healthcare, sustainability, and business transformation.

A big thank you to our faculty, guest speakers, company partners, and students for making this year's Short Program such a rewarding international learning experience.

We look forward to welcoming the next cohort in 2027.

We love seeing our alumni build careers while also pursuing the passions that inspire them, or finding ways to combine the two!

BSc alum Johanna Sommarlund works in Investor Relations at Coeli while also competing in sailing. For Johanna, the two worlds have more in common than you might think.

"Sailing constantly reminds you that not everything can be controlled. Conditions shift, and decisions often have to be made with incomplete information. Learning to adapt and accept uncertainty has been valuable professionally as well."

At SSE, we know that education extends beyond the classroom. Through our Sport Initiative, we encourage our community to explore how sport, leadership, and personal development can complement academic and professional life. Field trips, activities, speaker series and forums are just a few examples of how we integrate sport on campus.

🎨📚 A classroom can be more than a place to learn – it can also challenge how we think about knowledge itself.

In April 2026, artist Mark Dion transformed Room 138 at the Stockholm School of Economics into the School's ninth art classroom.

Inspired by twentieth-century school blackboards, educational charts, and diagrams, Dion created a site-specific installation that invites students to question how knowledge is created, organized, and communicated.

Running around the upper walls, a newly created frieze of drawings and collages is joined by a mural of the Midgard Serpent, painted directly onto wooden panels. Winding through the room as a timeline, it connects references to art, literature, economics, the social sciences, film, and major historical events, suggesting the interconnectedness of different forms of knowledge.

Throughout his career, Dion has explored how museums, universities, and other institutions shape our understanding of history, knowledge, and the natural world. A classroom within an academic institution is therefore a fitting setting for his work – one that encourages students to question, connect, and reflect.

While functioning as a regular teaching space, Room 138 is also a permanent work of art and part of the SSE Permanent Collection.
