Today is the centenary of the birth of the Italian Jewish chemist, writer and partisan Primo Levi (Turin, 31 July 1919 - 11 April 1987).
He wrote "If This Is a Man" in 1947, during the years he spent imprisoned in Auschwitz.

Italian is a language rich of words with multiple meanings. This linguistic phenomenon is called enantiosemy (from the Greek enantíos, "contrary", and sema, "sign") a case of polysemy in which one sense is in some respect the opposite of another. E.g. "ospite", that means "host" but also "guest".
