In the fall, we had the pleasure of having as a guest at EHL, Camelia Dewan, an Associate Professor in Cultural Anthropology at Uppsala University! Here is what Camelia shared about her time at ours!
🔹Why did you want to come to EHL?
I was grateful for the opportunity to spend time at the Environmental Humanities Laboratory while working on my second monograph, Living with Toxic Development. EHL's strengths in environmental history and the history of science offered perspectives that help me think beyond disciplinary boundaries and deepen the anthropological questions at the heart of the project.
🔹How has your experience been?
Incredibly stimulating. Presenting my work in the Higher Seminar Series and receiving thoughtful feedback from scholars across disciplines pushed me to rethink key assumptions and sharpen the book's arguments. The conversations have been both generous and challenging in the best way.
🔹What will you take with you?
New ideas, new collaborations, and a renewed appreciation for interdisciplinary research. The engagement with environmental historians and historians of science has helped me complicate and nuance how I think about toxicity, development, and environmental justice. I'll carry those insights with me as I continue writing the book.
🔹 Favourite nature spot?
I love the water in Tantolunden, Södermalm, where the mandarin ducks live. Stockholm is my favourite city in the world. I love being surrounded by water in my everyday life
Thank you Camelia for your time with us and luckily, we still get to interact with Camelia and her work!
