I am pleased to announce that the ACU has launched a new international scholarships initiative in South Africa.
In recent years, we have played a leading role in expanding the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan, through establishing an endowment fund to support Commonwealth Scholarships for international students in low and middle income countries.
I am pleased to report that, for 2016, funds are available to support up to nine such scholarships (two at PhD level, seven for Master's degree study) in South Africa. Details can be found on our website. The deadline for applications is 7 September 2015.
I am particularly grateful to the David & Elaine Potter Foundation, whose generosity is supporting the PhD scholarships, as well as colleagues at the Department of Higher Education and Training, who, in conjunction with Universities South Africa, have agreed to organise the selection panel.
I hope that this will be the start of a permanent initiative to help support high quality students from Commonwealth countries to study in South Africa, and we are already exploring ways in which we can maintain and expand the programme in future.
In the meantime, I would be grateful if you could bring the current opportunities to the attention of any suitable candidates who you feel may be interested.
