The Centre for Fashion Studies was established at Stockholm University in 2006 through a generous donation from the Erling Persson Family Foundation. The current faculty members have backgrounds in economic history, art history, literature, gender studies, film theory, marketing and consumption culture theory. Our students study at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and the Centre offers a Ph.D. programme, a programme which currently has twelve funded positions. Over the years we have had the opportunity to invite visiting faculty, which has included distinguished scholars from varying backgrounds such as gender studies, business history, cultural studies, semiotics, art history, sociology, film studies, and economic history. Current and previous visiting faculty members include Christopher Breward, Patrizia Calefato, Richard Dyer, Jane Gaines, Yuniya Kawamura, Marcia Landy, Giorgio Riello, Eugenia Paulicelli, Aileen Ribeiro, Agnès Rocamora, Gabriele Monti and Elizabeth Wilson. In addition to teaching students on all levels, these scholars have also participated in the Centre’s open lecture series, which has served to present research in fashion studies to the public.
