Annasara Lenman received the 2025 MIMS Investigator Award.

Annasara Lenman’s project will employ advanced 3D infection models to discover immune-related functions of human microproteins, with a particular emphasis on hantavirus infection. Her expertise combines patient-derived materials, 3D lung tissue, and transcriptomics to reveal novel virus–host mechanisms.

Kristina Lejon will assume the role of deputy director for the Umeå School of Education on 1 April.

Kristina Lejon is a professor of immunology and has extensive experience as an academic leader and of work on educational strategy, including as Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine. The appointment as deputy director is valid until summer 2028.

Tulio Yoshinaga from Brazil is an ‘Excellence by Choice’ postdoc in UCMR PI Constantin Urban lab. His research is about saprolegnosis - a fungi disease that affect freshwater fishes and causes huge problems in aquaculture especially in salmonids.

Life science short film premiere

The doors at KBC Glasburen opened at 10 with mingling, popcorn, and drinks at the premiere of »Where curiosity meets discovery« made by Umeå University film makers Alekzandra Granath and Simon Jönsson.

A surprisingly big crowd came to see the inspiring film highlighting the collaborative and open environment for life science research in Umeå with captivating acting performances by Lars-Anders Carlson, Dario Conca, Madhusree Matra, Elin Chorell, and extras.

Film directors and screenwriters Rebecca Forsberg, Anna Shevtsova, and Ingrid Söderbergh are indeed happy that the film they worked on is completed!
