🍿 This upcoming Thursday, the film Ballad of a Soldier will be screened at the Film Club! 🍿

When? Thursday the 15th of October, at 18:00.
Where? IRES library

About the movie: Ballad of a Soldier is a 1959 Soviet war drama, directed by Grigori Chukhrai. The main character, young soldier Alyosha Skvortsov, is played by Vladimir Ivashov.

A young Soviet soldier is given a few days’ leave after a heroic act on the battlefield. Instead of returning home, he begins a long journey to see his mother - meeting strangers, falling in love and witnessing the quiet human cost of war along the way. A deeply moving story about love, sacrifice and the fleeting moments of happiness found in the midst of war.

Looking forward to seeing you there! 🎞️

TSARES would like to welcome and congratulate all new students on being accepted into the Master’s Programme in Russian and Eurasian Studies!

More information about the inspark (beginning-of-semester activities) will be provided closer to the start of the semester via email (if you sign up as a TSARES member through the link in our bio), on Studium, and during the introduction day.

Besides joining TSARES, which is the association specifically for this master’s programme, we recommend that you also join Uppsala Studentkår. Uppsala Studentkår represents students at Uppsala University and continuously works to improve our conditions for learning.

We also recommend joining a nation. Through the nations, you can not only apply for housing, but also eat and drink at much better prices than elsewhere in their cafés, restaurants, and bars around town. (Note that you only need to join one nation to gain access to all of them.) It is very common for both TSARES and other student associations to hold their activities at the nations.

Closer to the start of the semester, we also encourage you to check Ladok, as you may need to register for your courses in order to take them. More information about this will be provided by IRES.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Until then, we wish you a wonderful summer holiday!

🇺🇦Unissued Diplomas exhibition🇺🇦

Unissued Diplomas is an international project aimed at commemorating the Ukrainian students whose lives were taken by the Russian full-scale invasion that started on February 24, 2022. Those students, supposed to get them, were killed by Russia before they could graduate, either as civilians or through taking up arms to defend their home country.

This exhibition aims to remind the world about the ongoing war and the price Ukrainians pay daily in their fight for freedom.

The exhibition will therefore show a number of these unissued diplomas, offering Uppsala students the opportunity to reflect and learn about the fates of some of those Ukrainian students killed by the war.

Speaker: Kateryna Boyko, IRES researcher specialising in activism within online communities in Ukraine

Speaker at 15:00

Where: IRES Library (Institute for Russian and Eurasian Studies) Uppsala University
