Day 3 of O'Week saw our Year 1s exploring new passions, expanding their horizons and making deeper connections across the NUSC community. ✨

At the Student Life Fair Carnival, they got to check out the wide array of interest groups that NUS College has to offer and discover all the different ways to make the most of life outside the classroom! 🎸

Later in the evening, the Year 1s gathered with peers and mentors from their respective majors during Faculty Bonding Time. Beyond hearing practical advice from seniors who were once in their shoes, they had the opportunity to build strong academic support networks for the years ahead. πŸ“š

Real impact doesn't begin with having all the answers. It begins with curiosity, empathy and the courage to step into unfamiliar spaces. πŸ’₯

Through Their Eyes πŸ‘€ follows NUS College students as they journey through the NUS College Impact Experience (IEx) Programme β€” working alongside communities, embracing uncertainty and discovering what meaningful change truly looks like. From transforming hotel food waste into compost for community gardens to preserving disappearing traditions in a Thai village, every project tells a story of learning, collaboration and growth. 🎯🌱

More than the outcomes, it's the people, perspectives and experiences that leave a lasting impact.

In Day 2 of O'Week, our Year 1s spent the day diving deeper into their new communities and showing us exactly what team spirit looks like. ✨

The day kicked off with house bonding time, giving them the perfect chance to connect with their housemates in a fun and relaxed setting. From crafting custom bracelets to diving into exciting mini games, it was all about sharing laughs and building new bonds within their home away from home. 🏠

During the afternoon and night, the Year 1s worked together in their orientation groups to tackle a variety of challenges and team-building activities, keeping the energy levels high well into the evening! πŸš€

What does meaningful impact look like beyond the classroom? πŸ’»

For two NUS College Impact Experience (IEx) teams, it meant working alongside communities in Indonesia and Malaysia to protect marine ecosystems and co-create sustainable solutions that can continue long after their projects end.

From harnessing AI to support sea turtle conservation to developing a community-led ecotourism model with the indigenous Bajau community, their journeys demonstrate that lasting change begins with listening, learning and collaborating. 🌊

🌊❀️Creating lasting positive impact for our communities!
At NUS College, learning does not just stop in the classroomπŸ“šβœ¨ , and that’s what makes us so special. Our students are constantly encouraged to look beyond academic excellence and become leaders who pave the way for fellow peers to create meaningful impact for the communities around them.🀝🌏

This year, three NUSC students (πŸ“ΈFrom left to right in first image), Chong Qiao Li, Xavier Chua, and Will Leong have had the privilege of making an impact beyond the classroom by taking on key leadership roles in the Flag Committee 2026. Together, they are leading efforts across operations, volunteer mobilisation and publicity for this year's university-wide fundraising campaign that benefit both the NUS community and the wider public.

Over the past six months, they have helped lead the planning of this year's Flag Days, working alongside a university-wide organising committee to coordinate students from 24 faculties and hostels 🏫 across over 40 flagging locations in Singapore, with a shared fundraising goal of $250,000 πŸ’°for ❀️and its 16 social service agencies.

Together with Qiao Li, Xavier, Will, and an estimated over 2000-strong NUS student volunteers πŸ™Œ, come support them for the Flag Day this Saturday (25 July) and next Saturday (1 August)!
