As AI continues to shape the higher education landscape, our department's faculty members recently came together for a workshop on AI in research and teaching.

A/P Markus Kirchberg, A/P Vik Gopal and Dr Tan Yan Shuo shared their insights and experiences on the use of AI in data science workflows, teaching and research, while Dr David Chew highlighted how AI will be further integrated into our programmes to ensure our students are well-prepared for an AI-driven workforce.

The department also took the opportunity to show appreciation to our newly retired faculty members, Prof Choi Kwok Pui and Prof Loh Wei Liem. Thank you for your many years of dedication and contributions to the faculty, and for the lasting impact you have made on generations of students.

From Jakarta to Chennai, one of our undergraduates, Bernardino Lintang, took a bold step beyond Singapore to pursue internship opportunities overseas — gaining not just technical experience, but also adaptability and a broader global perspective. 🌏

Our MSc Statistics programme held its third Gala Dinner last Wednesday, bringing together more than 130 students, alumni, and faculty at the Concorde Hotel.

We were honoured to have our alumni, Ms Wan Ting Poh and Mr Adrian Susanto, share their perspectives on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in today’s world, as well as their career journeys. Their insights encouraged our graduating students to approach the job market with confidence.

We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to our undergraduate DSA students, Zahra Kinanti and Beatrix Chen, for emceeing and hosting the evening so wonderfully, and to DSA alumnus Arnold Lek and his band for their excellent musical performance.

It was truly an event by our people, for our people. ❤

We are grateful to everyone who joined us to celebrate this special evening, and we look forward to staying connected with all of you.

It was great meeting prospective students at our department engagement sessions earlier this month!

A big thank you to our alumni — Dr Caroline Wang, Dr Zhao Wanting, Mr Richard Wong and Ms Karen Tee — for taking time out of their weekend to share their career journeys and experiences.

We also appreciate our wonderful students, Calista, Zhi Qian, Rikhil and Akshata, for giving a glimpse into student life at NUS.

Thank you all for making the sessions so meaningful and engaging!

In the hyper-kinetic world of data science, industry and academia must accelerate the otherwise slow exchange of ideas and innovations. And while the potential for collaboration is immense, creating a direct bridge between classroom theory and real-world application remains a significant challenge.

Our DSA3101 - Data Analytics in Practice course is designed to do just that. Over 13 weeks, student teams transform academic knowledge into end-to-end solutions for our industry partners.

This effort culminated in our final project roadshow that took place in early April, where nearly 190 students showcased their work. The results were impressive, with our industry partners noting they were struck by the "fresh perspectives and tangible prototypes" the students developed, providing them with new ways to approach their business challenges.

This semester, our students gained invaluable experience thanks to our partnership with:
P&G Singapore Innovation Center (SgIC)
Nippon Koei Business Partners
Signum Capital Management
SingHealth Duke-NUS Artificial Intelligence in Medicine Institute (AIMI)
University Campus Infrastructure, NUS

A huge congratulations to our students for their creativity and dedication, and a sincere thank you to our partners for helping nurture the next generation of data science talent!

We wrapped up Data Detox Day for our undergraduates earlier this week! Jointly organised by the department and the Statistics and Data Science Society, this year’s edition combined our exam welfare giveaway with an açaí live station by Moonbeam.co.

It was a great opportunity for students to catch up with one another, create friendship bracelets, and capture memories through Polaroid photos.

A big thank you as well to our sponsors for generously contributing to our exam welfare packs!
