Contract Bridge is a strategic game involving a standard poker card deck played among 4 players. Two players will form a partnership and the two partnerships involved in the game will compete for the best possible score. This game falls under the general category of trick-taking game much like Hearts, Spades and Floating (Singaporean) Bridge. Contract Bridge is recognised by the International Olym

pics Committee as a mind sport. It is also a good choice for players who wish to improve their critical thinking abilities as well as mental astuteness. Numerous key figures in the world such as Bill Gates, Warren Buffet and Deng Xiaoping have praised the game for its challenge posed to the players, both mentally and emotionally.

2. Character Development. The game is able to assist in a player’s character development in multitude of ways. The principal quality which distinguishes Contract Bridge from other sports is the partnership element in the game. Personal strengths such as teamwork, empathy and tolerance are indispensable for a partnership’s success, more so than many other physical sports and team sports.

3. We are part of TeamNUS and regularly compete in local and regional events. Contract Bridge provides an avenue for students to represent the school in competitive sports even though one might be less physically inclined.

4. Everyone can learn! Many players are deterred by the level of difficulty involved in the mind sports. This is especially so in games like chess where players are trained competitively since young. In comparison, less people play Contract Bridge and most of them only pick it up when they are in Junior Colleges or University. Players need not worry that they will lose just because they do know the techniques very well, since people start picking up the game around the same time. SO START NOW! Are you ready? Exciting news – as a new initiative, NUS Bridge is launching our very own introduction to Contract Bridge🃏 for new players next semester – the NUS Bridge Series! Held on Wednesday afternoons from Week 2-6 in Semester 1, the Series aims to get together people who love card games, and want to pick up something new to hone their skills in.

Whether you are a complete newbie starting out, a budding novice keen on excelling in the upcoming Inter-Faculty Games, or a Floating Bridge master who wishes to learn a new variant of the game, we have something for you. Plus, free refreshments🥤 and additional perks for those who participate enthusiastically!
