SMU Peer Helpers SMU Peer Helpers is a student body made up of individuals passionate about becoming better supporters

SMU Peer Helpers is a student body made up of caring individuals who are passionate about becoming better supporters to our peers. The SMU Peer Helping Initiative was started in 2004 and was S

ingapore’s first and only formal peer helping programme for the education sector. We are trained in counselling skills and are supervised by the counsellors from the Mrs Wong Kwok Leong Student Wellness Centre (MWKLSWC). While Peer Helpers are not professional counsellors, we serve as a bridge between the Wellness Centre and the SMU community. We hope to provide a listening ear to fellow students who need a safe place to share their troubles so as to build an "Emotional Safety Net" across the student community. This strategy aims to more quickly identify students who are experiencing emotional or mental health distresses and attend to them appropriately. We also operate Cosy Haven and provide SMU students with a welcoming environment for relaxation, cosy chats and an avenue to momentarily shed woes. Lastly, we organize events every semester to promote wellness in school and at the same time, extend our reach to more students in our community.
