Lu Pinyao, a graduate from NTU's Class of 2026, is giving back to the university through the Class Gift after benefiting from donor support during her time as a student.

Receiving support from the estate of the late Nassar Saddique and the NTU Bursary Fund eased her family's financial burden and allowed her to focus on her studies. Inspired by this generosity, she is now paying it forward to help future students pursue their education.

Her story reflects how donor support can have a lasting impact, creating opportunities for one generation of students to support the next.

A huge congratulations to MA Student Azila Rozaini for being selected as the winner of the NTU Graduate Collegeโ€™s Collaborative Research Award for AY 2025-2026!

Azila was co-supervised by Assistant Professor Cheryl Julia Lee and Associate Professor Graham Matthews. As part of a Social Science Research Thematic Grant (SSRTG)-supported Medical Humanities project, Azila worked with researchers, healthcare professionals, social service agencies, and arts practitioners to address mental health stigma in Singapore. Through a series of multidisciplinary and cross-sector roundtables, she helped facilitate dialogue between stakeholders from diverse fields, generating insights that informed the development of guidelines for cultural producers on the representation of mental health. This collaborative project highlights the value of bringing together expertise from the humanities, healthcare, and creative sectors to address complex societal challenges and strengthen connections between research, practice, and community.

The Graduate College awards are given annually to the most deserving graduating students for their achievements during their studies at NTU, and to their advisors. The Collaborative Research Award recognises graduate students who have established joint research activities with other groups in NTU (engagement through peers, research fellows, faculty, etc.) that led to important discoveries or other tangible outcomes.

We are delighted to share that Professor Jacob Stegenga, Chair of the School of Humanities at NTU, has been named Honorary Professor of Kharkiv National Medical University (KhNMU) in Ukraine.

The title was conferred at a ceremony on 28 May, which Professor Stegenga attended in person during his visit to Kharkiv. The honour recognises a collaboration that began in 2023, spanning teaching and research.

Professor Stegenga is a world-renowned philosopher of science specialising in the philosophy of medicine, biomedical ethics, and medical epistemology. His work on causal reasoning, the reliability of medical evidence, and the foundations of evidence-based medicine has been integrated into the KhNMU curriculum.

At the ceremony, the Rector thanked Professor Stegenga for his support and contributions to international academic cooperation. Professor Stegenga spoke about the value of international academic solidarity and his commitment to deepening the partnership.
