🏅 Celebrating our PhD Medal of Honour awardees! 👏

We are proud to celebrate this year’s recipients of the PhD Medal of Honour, the University’s highest accolade for outstanding graduates of the Doctor of Philosophy programme.

The award recognises exceptional research excellence and original, innovative contributions that have made a significant academic or societal impact. It also honours graduates who demonstrate the potential to become future leaders in research, innovation, and industry.

Award recipients:

✨ Dr Zhou Xuhui

Dr Cao is now continuing his academic journey as a Specially Appointed Assistant Professor at the Machine Intelligence Laboratory (MIL) Lab, The University of Tokyo, Japan. Reflecting on the people who supported him and what this recognition means for the future, he shared:

🎓 “Embrace uncertainty because that is where meaningful innovation happens.”

At this year’s NTU PhD Ceremony, TikTok CEO Chew Shou Zi shared these words with graduates as they celebrated a hard-earned milestone and looked towards what lies ahead.

For our PhD graduates from the Class of 2026, the occasion marked the culmination of years of research, discovery, and dedication to advancing knowledge.

We are also proud to recognise this year’s award recipients, whose hard work and achievements made the occasion even more meaningful:

is honoured to celebrate Associate Professor Arokiaswami Alphones and Associate Professor Mohammed Yakoob Siyal, who have been conferred the title of Emeritus Associate Professor with effect from 1 August 2026.

This conferment recognises their significant contributions to the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and their dedicated service to NTU throughout their careers.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to both professors for the expertise, commitment, and guidance they have generously shared over the years. Their contributions have made a lasting impact on the school and on the many students and colleagues they have guided and inspired.

⛰️ Peak perseverance with !

Our students Damien Goh (Year 3), Lim Jun Sheng (Year 3), and Bennett Ng (Year 2), together with their teammates from NTU Dragon Boat, recently rose to the challenge of scaling the 4,095m-tall Mount Kinabalu, the highest peak in Malaysia.

Together, the group navigated steep trails, slippery rocks, changing weather, and tired legs, supporting and encouraging one another as they continued towards the summit.

Reflecting on what carried him through the journey, Damien shared:
“The summit wasn’t the only thing that moved me; it was the people beside me. Despite the slippery rocks near the top and our aching legs on the way down, we kept one another moving when giving up felt easier.”

For Jun Sheng, the experience was a reminder of the purpose behind taking on the challenge:
“When the going gets tough, I will always remember why I started: to bring everyone together to conquer not just the summit, but also our own limits.”

Bennett similarly reflected on how the support of his friends helped him through the demanding climb:
“The climb up was challenging, but it was made easier by the friends at my side.”

At the summit, the group proudly waved the NTU EEE flag high above the clouds, marking an unforgettable achievement and a moment that made us immensely proud. ❤️💙

🌏🎒 New city, new beginning, welcome MSc students!

Our incoming Master of Science (MSc) students were warmly welcomed at the airport before heading to the Lifelong Learning Club (LLC) at NTU EEE, where they were introduced to the School and heard first-hand about MSc life from one of our students.

Of course, no welcome to Singapore is complete without a taste of local flavours, including nasi lemak! 🍽️

From airport hellos to campus first steps, it was a meaningful start filled with new faces, new experiences, and the beginning of many memories ahead.

A big thank you to our staff and student helpers for thoughtfully curating this welcome programme and helping our students feel at home from day one. ❤️💙
