Over 3 days and 2 nights, our incoming NUS Civil Engineering freshmen got a taste of what’s to come — from fun team activities to inspiring industry sharing sessions by 5 of our valued partner companies. 💬👷‍♂️👷‍♀️

From the skyscrapers we live in 🏢, to the MRT tunnels we ride through 🚇, and the ports that power our trade ⚓ — civil engineering is the silent force behind it all. 🌍🔧

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) spearheads land transport developments in Singapore. We plan, design, build and maintain Singapore’s land transport infrastructure and systems.

We aspire to strengthen Singapore’s land transport connectivity and integrate a greener and more inclusive public transport system complemented by walk and cycle options. We harness technology to strengthen our rail and bus infrastructure and develop exciting options for future land transport.

The land transport network has transformed significantly since the inception of LTA in 1995, with more than 160km of expressways spanning the island, an MRT network of more than 200 km, over 600 km of cycling paths and park connectors, and increasingly varied commuting options.

Our recent visit to the BCA Academy, organised by the Building and Construction Authority (BCA), offered a meaningful and immersive experience into the built environment sector.

The program was thoughtfully structured, featuring insightful sharings from BCA scholars across different departments. Their different perspectives on career pathways, scholarship opportunities, and real-world work in civil engineering and construction management helped us gain deeper insights into the thoughtfulness of policies and processes championed by BCA.

The campus tour further enriched the experience and satisfied our curiosity, resulting in a better understanding of BCA Academy's role in training and upskilling our built environment
workforce. The commitment and professionalism displayed by BCA’s team certainly left a lasting impression.

The experience left us more inspired, more informed, and definitely more excited about what lies ahead for us as future civil engineers! 👷‍♀️👷‍♂️✨
