🎓 1 Week to go!

On 7 August 2026, the University of the Arts Singapore will mark its inaugural Commencement, bringing together graduands from LASALLE College of the Arts (LASALLE) and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) for a historic celebration.

The UAS Commencement will be followed by separate Convocation ceremonies hosted by LASALLE and NAFA, honouring the achievements of the Class of 2026 as they receive their degrees.

We look forward to celebrating this milestone with our graduands, families and friends!

We are endlessly grateful to the love from family, friends, mentors, community fellows, industry mentors and even curious strangers, who took the time to come by campus for our shows and showcases.

With the first group of graduation showcases done and dusted and a part deux for postgraduates underway, our graduands now move toward 2026—the final rite before they officially take their place in the world no longer as students, but as confident full-fledged creatives set to make waves.

The LASALLE community is heartbroken to learn of the passing of Eta Lauw, who was not just a colleague and educator in the MA Music Therapy programme, but also a beloved mentor, cherished friend and dedicated music therapist serving and uplifting the community.

Our hearts are with her family, friends and students.

For their final projects, the inaugural cohort of 19 graduates from the BA (Hons) Design for Social Futures programme immersed themselves in ethnographic, practice-led research with National University Hospital, MakanBersama and heartland neighbourhood communities.

Connecting with caregivers, patients, residents and stakeholders across their three thesis labs, these student designers employed site-based fieldwork, strategic frameworks and participatory design to assess heir response to the frictions of patient experience, sustainable medicine practice, and community building. As citizen designers, their work advocate for the voices that need to be heard when encountering real-world complexities.

Whether they were building relationships with community residents who lived in rental blocks or diving into patient and healthcare staff sentiments towards sustainable practices, the graduands focused on how humanistic design, sincere conversations, and community programmes could uncover new perspectives informed better care, resilience and success.

The final projects of the Diploma in Interior Design graduands propose better intergenerational connection, fruitful green zones to counter rapid urbanisation, and meaningfully-arranged spaces that can serve more than one purpose in land-scarce Singapore.

These young designers are at a unique position where they both foresee and shape our collective futures, reconfiguring our lived environments with thought and care while responding adroitly to ever-shifting social, economic and environmental needs.

Early this June, BA (Hons) Arts Management Year 2 students Amila Khairana, Stella Ong and Vera Tan made their way to Dublin for the annual research symposium of the TU Dublin / OT Baile Átha Cliath School of Art and Design.

The trio presented on Javanese-Indonesian food traditions in Singapore, Chinese Feng Shui practices and multilingual identities—research developed through their first Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL), an experience pioneered by SUNY that empowers students from all over the world to connect virtually and collaborate on academic projects. Together, the students from TU Dublin and LASALLE explored how inherited and cultivated identities are negotiated across cultures and histories.

Of course, a trip to the Emerald Isle would not have been replete without including sidequests like hunting for four-leaf clovers and experiencing the beauty of wood, hill and sea!

“For this cohort of graduating artists, the subjects of their practice and the interests that they gravitate towards are many. They are contemporary in being of their time, as well as perennial and even eternal. In the snapshot that is their graduation exhibition, they present to us the forms, symbols, relations and methods of significance from their perspectives, and in so doing draw attention to our collective present within a continuously changing world,” writes Dr June Yap in her catalogue essay for the graduate BA (Hons) Fine Arts showcase.

As student curators Emma Chong and Michelle Loh shared of this progression, it is an emphasis on the nature of works in flux [...] In short, as artists, they are here to be seen, to be heard, not only as they are here, but with much more to come.”

Indeed, the Class of 2026 moves between traditional disciplines to emergent art forms like breathing. Embracing diversity, they graduate as more sensitive and analytical creators empowered to manifest their unique points of view towards art, culture and society.
