: Making Animation Symposium 2026: Seeing Animation, convened by Dr Gan Sheuo Hui, LASALLE College of the Arts and organised in partnership with Assoc Prof Lim Beng Choo, Head, Department of Japanese Studies, National University of Singapore, enjoyed its third and most lively edition yet this year.

The Symposium opened with a keynote by along with sharing sessions by programme directors Zhu Yantong from Feinaki Beijing Animation Week, Narita Hyoe and Masato Hojo from Niigata International Animation Film Festival, Sam Kuwa from The Most Trash Animation Film Festival (Taiwan), Wang Chi-Sui from Kuandu International Animation Festival and Thanut Rujitanont from SiamAnima.

With so many juicy talks, screenings and sharings that got the attendees’ critical and creative juices flowing, they left the symposium better poised to tackle the inciting question: in animation filmmaking, who gets seen, and might the act of slow seeing make the making matter even more?

: Congratulations to BA (Hons) Design Communication grad Eugenia Er for her recent win in the Communication Arts 2027 Typography Competition in the Student Work category!

Her thesis project 𝗦𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗽𝘁 𝗛𝘆𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗶𝘁𝘆 is one of 15 awarded student works out of entries from around the world, and takes its place amongst other professionally outstanding typographical projects jury-picked for their design excellence.

𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗧𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗮: 𝗔𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 closes on 22 October 2026. The exhibition is a labour of love by students, alumni, faculty and practitioners in both behind-the-scenes roles and as exhibitors.

The exhibition traces the experimental arc of computational practices from first-year work to graduate and professional work, positioning them not as records of past inquiry but as prototypes, signals and an archive of future artistic design practice, as well as a snapshot of the BA (Hons) Design Communication programme curriculum's computation in design, data spaces and urban fieldwork classes.

We are delighted to celebrate John Marie Andrada, John Leong, Neo Weiqi and Yeo Shih Yun, whose works are featured at The Arts House as part of new exhibition 'F-LUX. Art’s Fluid Space'.

Curated by Nadia Stefanel, the exhibition brings together artists from Singapore and Italy—John-Marie, John, Weiqi and Shih Yun, along with Sabrina Casadei, Serena Fineschi, Roberto Maria Lino and Wolfgang Flad. Inspired by Heraclitus’ concept of Panta Rei (“everything flows”), F-LUX explores ideas of movement, transformation and fluidity through the intersections of contemporary art, science and Formula 1 aerodynamics.

In thesis project ‘𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻’, Pann Lim, creative director at Kinetic Singapore and MA Design student, sought to answer one question: in the age of AI, where does the human soul of design go?

Hosted at the beloved Basheer Graphic Books , Pann’s first solo exhibition presented a thought-provoking exploration, using evidence from his postgraduate research, of what it means to be a creative in the age of AI.

Speaking to Lianhe Zaobao 联合早报, Pann said he had felt driven into a corner by the looming ‘AI issue’—which was why he chose to tackle studies at the postgraduate level and understand it through academic research. "What other ways are there to answer the question persuasively? While it might not be enough to call it a definitive answer, by setting up comparative experiments and collecting survey responses from over 20 countries, my project has at least provided a sense of direction.

“I’m grateful to be able to bring some hope to the designers going through uncertainty and anxiety during this period. I believe we’ll be fine, as long as we remember that the question is not whether machines can do what humans do; it’s whether humans will continue to do what machines cannot.”

On top of witnessing 🎻 make history and getting to celebrate it twice at the gala opening and public release, we’re EXTRA proud that Puttnam School of Film & Animation and School of Design Communication are at the heart of the production: Elaine Chan, line producer, Innocentia Rebeca and Shaun Minh Phuong, CG supervisors, and J Nathan, character designer (Robot Playground).

The animation also got a bonus acting from then-students (now graduates!) of the School of Dance & Theatre Cheryl Yong, Timothy Immanuel and Joel Gay Han.

Finally, we’re especially grateful that co-directors Raúl García and Ervin Han returned to LASALLE early this September for a reunion of friends old and new, to share the the movie with our students and the animation community. 🥹

Creative Brain Week Singapore, presented in partnership between LASALLE College of the Arts and Trinity College Dublin, is a creativity-led and practice-driven conference focused on art, science and sociocultures in the context of and in .

The five-day event was opened by LASALLE President Venka Purushothaman and Trinity College Dublin’s Global Brain Health Institute Site Director Iracema Leroi, followed by an orientation by Creative Brain Week Singapore project lead Dr Cissie Fu and introductions to on-site art installations by anGie seah and Liszu Tan.

Over the next four days, the community got to experience a kaleidoscope of learning and sharing: interactive lectures on topics ranging from understanding the self to dementia brain health equity to how creative arts can play a role in brain injury (thank you Jane Conway, Gráinne McGettrick, Two Cent Collective’s William Dean and anGie seah, Anna Abraham and Dominique Lämmli), workshops about neuroplasticity through puzzling and on mindful walking (thank you Paula Zheng and Liszu Tan), and field trips off campus with focii from curatorial accessibility to circus neurokinaesthetics (thank you Erica Lai, Iracema Leroi, William Dean, Emily Ong, Ai Ling Sim-Devadas and Ashwati Vipin, and Xyn Foo).

Thank you one and all for the deep dives, reviews and reflections, takeaways and giveaways, and many an enriching supper—and for making 2026 another year for spotlighting the neuroscience of creativity and the creativity of neuroscience.

: Diya Aratti, fresh BA (Hons) Fashion Media and Industries grad, has won a Top Seed Award from the Design Business Chamber Singapore! 🎉💅

Diya was one of 10 outstanding design students recognised for her exceptional potential as a future design leader. Her thesis project, DAARA—which tackles the limited visibility, authorship and agency of women forming the backbone of India’s handloom sector—was part of her win assessment as well, proving Diya’s propensity for creative impact, critical thinking, connective intelligence, perseverance and ethical decision-making.

Diya is currently pursuing her Master’s studies at the London College of Fashion.

Out of 45 universities showcasing at the prestigious global Ars Electronica Campus Exhibition 2026, the LASALLE BA (Hons) Arts Management team, presenting 'Echoes of the Bay', scored itself an Honorary Mention Campus Award! 📢🏆✨

Only five Honorary Mentions are awarded under the Ars Electronica Campus Exhibition—granting recognition of powerfully incisive explorations of what it means to negotiate and stand for humanity in times of crisis.
