🏆⛳ Wrapping up the 55th UM-NUS Inter-University Tunku Chancellor Golf Tournament at Tanah Merah Golf Club!

More than 100 golfers from National University of Singapore and Universiti Malaya came together for another memorable edition of this longstanding tournament. Alternating annually between Singapore and Malaysia, it continues to strengthen friendships, foster sportsmanship and deepen the enduring partnership between our two universities.

Congratulations to Team NUS for clinching this year’s Tunku Chancellor Cup! 🏆 While the trophy may change hands, the friendships, mutual respect and shared experiences built over the past few days will continue to unite the NUS and UM communities for years to come.

The Prize Presentation Lunch was graced by HE Tharman Shanmugaratnam, President of the Republic of Singapore and Chancellor of NUS and HRH Sultan of Perak Nazrin Shah, Chancellor of the University of Malaya. Their presence made the occasion especially meaningful as golfers from both universities came together to celebrate another successful chapter of the UM–NUS tradition.

Joining the celebrations were NUS President Professor Tan Eng Chye, UM Vice-Chancellor Professor Dato’ Seri Ir Dr Noor Azuan Abu Osman, NUS Chief Alumni Officer Ms Ovidia Lim-Rajaram, NUS Golf Captain Ms Angelia Tay and UM Golf Captain Dr Muhammad Asri Mohd Ali, members of the NUS Alumni Advisory Board, and golfers, alumni and representatives from both universities.

To our friends from UM, thank you for your friendship, sportsmanship and camaraderie throughout UM–NUS 2026. We look forward to continuing this proud tradition at UM–NUS 2027 in Malaysia. 🇲🇾🤝🇸🇬

An evening of celebration, tradition and enduring friendship.

Following a day of meaningful connections at the UM–NUS Social Game and insightful discussions at the 3rd UM–NUS Joint Academic Symposium, the Gala Dinner at Capella Singapore brought together university leaders, academics, alumni, golfers and delegates from National University of Singapore and Universiti Malaya ahead of the 55th UM–NUS Inter-University Tunku Chancellor Golf Tournament.

We were deeply honoured by the presence of HE Tharman Shanmugaratnam, President of the Republic of Singapore and Chancellor of NUS and Mrs Jane Ittogi Shanmugaratnam, HRH Sultan of Perak Nazrin Shah, Chancellor of the Universiti Malaya and HRH Raja Permaisuri of Perak Zara Salim, together with university leaders and delegates from both institutions. Their presence underscored the enduring partnership between NUS and UM, as well as the warm ties between Singapore and Malaysia.

The evening was enlivened by performances from NUS Dikir Barat and NUS Indian Dance, and an octet of alumni from the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, adding a memorable cultural dimension to the celebration.

More than a dinner, the evening celebrated over five decades of friendship, collaboration and shared aspirations between NUS and UM. As we look ahead to the tournament, we celebrate a partnership that has grown beyond the fairways — bringing together our communities through golf, academic exchange and a shared commitment to excellence while strengthening the enduring ties between Singapore and Malaysia.

What began on the golf course has grown into a partnership that extends far beyond sport. The 3rd UM–NUS Joint Academic Symposium 2026: AI Challenges and Opportunities reflects the shared commitment of National University of Singapore and Universiti Malaya to advancing education, research and innovation.

Co-organised by the NUS Artificial Intelligence Institute and Universiti Malaya (UM), the symposium brought together leading academics and experts from both universities to explore the transformative potential of artificial intelligence while examining the opportunities, challenges and responsibilities that come with its development and adoption.

The symposium opened with remarks by NUS President Professor Tan Eng Chye and UM Vice-Chancellor Professor Dato' Seri Ir Dr Noor Azuan Abu Osman, setting the stage for insightful discussions and the exchange of ideas on one of today's most transformative technologies.

We were honoured by the presence of HE Tharman Shanmugaratnam, President of the Republic of Singapore and NUS Chancellor, and HRH Sultan of Perak Nazrin Shah, Chancellor of the University of Malaya, whose attendance reaffirmed the shared commitment of both universities to strengthening collaboration in education, research and innovation.

Our sincere appreciation to Professor Mohan Kankanhalli, Director of the NUS Artificial Intelligence Institute, and Professor Loo Chu Kiong from UM for curating this year's symposium theme and programme. We also extend our thanks to the organising teams from both universities for making the symposium possible.

As ideas were exchanged and new collaborations forged, the symposium demonstrated how the UM–NUS partnership continues to evolve — building on a tradition that began on the golf course while creating new opportunities for meaningful collaboration through education, research and innovation.

We kicked off with a friendly Social Game at Singapore Island Country Club, where golfers from National University of Singapore and Universiti Malaya came together to reconnect, forge new friendships and enjoy a memorable day on the course.

A warm welcome to our friends from Universiti Malaya to Singapore for another memorable UM–NUS gathering!💙

Last evening, golfers, alumni, faculty and guests from the National University of Singapore and Universiti Malaya came together over dinner to reconnect with old friends, welcome new faces, and celebrate a partnership that spanned generations.

Conversations flowed, stories were shared, and new connections were forged, reflecting the spirit of the UM–NUS partnership: one built on friendship, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to learning, collaboration and lasting relationships.

Over the coming days, golf, academic exchange and celebration will bring our communities together once again, creating new memories while strengthening the enduring bond between our two universities.
