What can a connection made in Munich mean for students back home in Singapore? 🌏

New people to learn from, fresh perspectives to discover, and opportunities to experience learning beyond the classroom.

In Munich, SIT signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Bavarian University and Innovation Center Asia-Pacific (BayAP), creating more opportunities for Singapore and Bavaria's higher education and innovation communities to connect.

Bavaria is known for its strengths in engineering, manufacturing and innovation. Through this MOU, SIT and BayAP will explore student and faculty exchanges, joint research, and education initiatives. Our students and faculty will get to see how their Bavarian counterparts tackle real-world challenges and bring those ideas back to SIT.

Through connections like this, we’re bringing the world a little closer to home.

For a child struggling to speak, waiting 5 weeks for therapy is a long time. At one Singapore clinic, that wait was cut to 2 weeks.

In 2023, SIT and Thye Hua Kwan Moral Charities (THKMC) opened Singapore's first student-led Speech and Language Therapy clinic, built on a simple idea: train future therapists and reach more families at the same time.

Led by A/Prof Valerie Lim, the clinic paired SIT students on their final-year placements with THKMC's Clinical Educators. Children with speech and language difficulties could be seen within two weeks, down from an average wait of five.

The model worked both ways. THKMC could serve more children, sooner, while SIT students gained experience working with real cases in a clinical setting.

So far, more than 35 children have received timely support and 6 SIT students have completed their placements at the clinic. For Carine Yap, who was a Year 4 student in 2024, the experience also marked the start of her career. After completing her placement, she returned to the clinic as a full-time Speech Language Therapist.

Now, the model is set to grow, with new student clinics for physiotherapy and occupational therapy next.

Fifteen years. That’s how long Pamela Tan waited to find a master’s programme that matched her work as a specialist nurse for children who’ve had liver transplants.

When she finally found it, she wasn’t sure she could see it through. Pamela lives with two chronic conditions which, on difficult days, meant getting around the wards in a motorised wheelchair. On top of that, the programme came with 440 clinical hours.

She applied anyway, half expecting a no.

Today, she’s part of our Class of 2026, and her research is changing how she cares for her young patients. 🎓

🎓 Congratulations, Class of 2026! 🎉

SIT Convocation 2026 is in full swing, celebrating more than 3,200 graduates, our largest cohort to date, and the hard work and determination that brought them to this moment. ❤️

We were honoured to have Mrs Josephine Teo, Minister for Digital Development and Information, join us in celebrating this milestone with our graduates and their families. Our humanoid robots on the ushering team brought an unexpected touch to the occasion. 🤖🎓

This year brings several firsts: the first convocation presided over by our inaugural Chancellor, Mr Heng Swee Keat, the pioneer batch of Doctor of Engineering graduands and the first Applied Computing graduates from the Competency-based Stackable Micro-credential pathway.

The occasion also saw Prof Chua Kee Chaing, President of SIT, announce the establishment of SITLEARN, the SIT School of Lifelong Learning and Career Development. SITLEARN is built on a simple conviction: that learning must lead somewhere.

"For individuals, SIT moves from course provider to career transformation partner… For enterprises, SIT becomes a workforce transformation partner," said Prof Chua.

Because at SIT, graduation is not the end of learning, or of our relationship with our SITizens. That is exactly what SITLEARN is built for.

And we’re only getting started! Over the next four days, we’ll be celebrating many more SITizens and their achievements before rounding off the weeklong festivities with a SITizen Day, welcoming our newest alumni members into the community.🎓✨

Caregiving doesn't end at hospital discharge. For many, that's where the hardest part begins.

Caregivers often face the task of preventing and treating bedsores: the skin damage that can set in when a patient spends too long in one position. To help, SIT faculty from Nursing and Engineering teamed up with students and SGH's nursing team. Led by A/Prof Elaine Siow, they built RemindMe, an app that puts clinical guidance, care reminders and visual how-tos in one place for caregivers at home.

A 2024 feasibility study showed significant improvements in caregiver knowledge and self-confidence. For SGH, RemindMe is now a working model for extending care beyond the ward. Looking ahead, the SIT-SGH team is working to integrate RemindMe into a wider community-based care bundle, bringing the same support into more homes across Singapore.

Simple exercises, a little care and happy feet!

As part of SIT’s Speaker Series, older workers from the community learnt foot and calf exercises they could practise at home or at work to improve mobility, flexibility and strength.

Supported by the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, the session was initiated by Asst Prof Yvonne Kong, driven by her passion to support and empower older workers in Singapore. She worked alongside our Physiotherapy students and Asst Prof Mark Chan, a registered physiotherapist, to develop the exercises, carefully considering how each movement could fit safely and easily into everyday routines.

This is applied learning in action – putting classroom knowledge to work and learning how to support the community that they will one day care for.

One industry. Four very different journeys. 🎓

At Semiconductor Awareness Day, 4 SIT alumni came back to campus to show there’s no single route in, with degrees across Aircraft Systems Engineering, Electronics and Data Engineering, Mechanical Design and Manufacturing Engineering, and Chemical Engineering.

One moved from aerospace into semiconductors. Another applies data engineering to semiconductor manufacturing. And another has progressed from Process Engineer to Process Manager, now leading a team of 12 engineers.

Their stories were a reminder that the skills built at SIT can open up more possibilities than one might expect.
