With the formation of new trade routes and capital market connectivity between the nations of Asia and the Southern hemisphere, south-south trade will develop rapidly and shift the centre of global economic gravity along a

Southern Silk Road. SMU Emerging Markets (SEM) believes that emerging markets are the new frontiers of the global economy and has classified our 7 main desks/regions into Africa, Central & East Asia, India, Latin America, Middle East, Russia, and South &South-East Asia. In line with Singapore Management University’s transformation from a local premier university to a university for the world of business and management, SEM differentiates itself by placing emerging markets at the heart of our club’s identity.

On Friday, 1 March 2019, SMU Emerging Markets warmly welcomed back our alumni and senior members to our 7th annual Alumni Night!

It was great to see the members from previous batches catching up with one another; it was even more heartening to see senior members mingling with the current batch of EM members! This goes to show what EM is all about! Thank you to all alumni and senior members for spending your Friday night with us, despite your busy schedule! Cheers to keeping the spirit of the club alive!

Alumni Night 2018 - SEMily

Time flies when we are having fun. Last Friday, 2 February 2018, we successfully held our club's 6th annual Alumni Night. Thank you all alumni and seniors for taking time off to attend our club's annual event. It was great seeing many of you from the previous batches coming down to catch up with old friends. It was also heartwarming to see seniors sharing their experiences with new members. This is what makes our club special - We are SEMily.

Last Friday, our alumni reunited with the analysts from the 7th batch for the bak2sku dinner at the Alcove. Everyone had a great time having good food, playing darts and sharing our stories over a few drinks. We look forward to seeing each other (and many more) again very soon at the upcoming Alumni Night!

On Wednesday 13th September, 2017, SMU Emerging Markets launched our inaugural Emerging Markets Forum. Named "Demystifying Russia", the forum explored commonly held perceptions of Russia and delved into her key business opportunities and challenges. We were fortunate to be joined by distinguished panelists: Ms. Gwyneth Tan, former Singapore trade commissioner to Russia, Mr. Vadislav Solodkiy, managing partner of life.SREDA, Mr. Timur Khamitov, head of Partnerships and Startup Ecosystems, and Mr. Karan Tilani, Head of Asia at World of Diamonds Group . Through engaging exchanges between the panelists and active participation from the audience, the forum provided guests with invaluable insights into various prominent industries in Russia and a glimpse into its culture and business environment. The forum is a resounding success, with participation from over 90 guests, both from and outside the university!

The forum was made possible through the joint efforts of our president Sophia, our CIS director Elaine, the EXCO and members of the 6th batch. SMU Emerging Markets is proud to reach this new milestone in our mission to promote awareness on emerging market regions and we are grateful for the support given! Moving forward, we will work even harder to organise more of such events! Please stay tuned to our website and our page for updates!

SMU Emerging Markets is organizing the inaugural Emerging Markets Forum (EMF): Demystifying Russia - Growth Opportunities and Challenges Ahead. Open to undergraduates and the public, the event aims to provide insights into Russia's political and business environment, her key industries as well as potential internship opportunities. The event consists of a panel discussion and a networking session (refreshments provided). We will be joined by esteemed panelists with wide-ranging experiences in private equity, venture capital, fintech, foreign trade policies, mining and commodities.
