Another week, another step towards independence

Our starringSMU volunteers were back at Bizlink Centre, guiding beneficiaries through everyday homemaking skills like sorting items, folding clothes and making the bed

We then end off the session with some fun lantern making, keeping the Mid Autumn festivities going 🏮 ✨

Here’s to learning new skills and making memories together!

Thank you Nicholas & Jin Da for hosting our The Purple Parade team at Singapore Management Uni 💜! Boon Keng, Joan Hung & I enjoyed sharing the realities & hopes of our community. Questions ranged from what school life was like for Joan and Boon Keng, dealing with haters and how inclusion can be lived out everyday, to challenges PWDs face in the workplaces. I appreciate the thoughtful questions asked and also the insightful responses from Joan and Boon Keng. As a side note, Joan leaves to compete in the 20th Asian Games in Parajudo very soon and we are so proud of her!

Love to have our tertiary students join us at our upcoming Purple Parade 2026 on the 24th October. Thank you to all 💛 PWD Community Service Project @ SMU for being a joy to share with, you’re awesome!

A meaningful afternoon with The Purple Parade ! 💜🌟

starringSMU was delighted to host Rachel Ong (Chairperson of TPP), Joan Hung and Boon Keng for our fireside chat on Students’ Role in Shaping an Inclusive Singapore!

From hearing about the lived experiences of PWDs to learning how we can offer support more thoughtfully, our volunteers walked away with valuable insights on building a more inclusive society.

A huge thank you to The Purple Parade and the team behind this meaningful collaboration! We hope to carry these learnings into our volunteering engagements.

Kicking off our “Starring Together” series this October 🌟

As starringSMU continues volunteering with the PWD community, we hope to build greater awareness and understanding beyond our engagements.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing more about different disabilities, including autism, cerebral palsy, intellectual disabilities and more.

Over the weekend, we were grateful to have Ms Lydia Lee and Ms Esther from SAAC join us to share more about Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) with our starringSMU volunteers.

Amidst their midterm examinations, our volunteers still showed up with enthusiasm and a willingness to learn, deepening their understanding of ASD and how they can better support the individuals they serve.

Through this meaningful sharing, we hope our volunteers will be empowered with greater knowledge, empathy and confidence to live out our tagline, “Ignite the Stars in You”, discovering the potential within themselves while helping to ignite the stars in others too.

A heartfelt thank you to Ms Lydia Lee and Ms Esther for taking the time to share your knowledge and experiences with us, and to all our volunteers for continuing to learn, grow and serve. ✨

Our 15 starringSMU volunteers at THK Autism Centre @ Geylang Bahru kicked things off with a DIY mini notebook activity!

Through folding and decorating, our beneficiaries practised their fine motor skills while creating something of their own.

These notebooks will follow them throughout our 16-week volunteering journey, capturing their activities and progress along the way.

Small steps towards greater independence, together! 🌱

Last Saturday, we were pleased to welcome SMU alumnus Mr Alister Ong Alister Ong for our starringSMU Fireside Chat! 🌟

Through his authentic sharing of his lived experiences with cerebral palsy, Alister gave our volunteers a deeper understanding of disability and inclusion as they continue volunteering with the PWD community.
