Next week, further information will be released regarding each stage of the elections process, starting with the information session on the 12th of August. The nomination form is attached to the email, which was sent out yesterday - for those who are interested in running for Law Club, or wish to nominate another individual, please do submit a hard copy of the form to Mailbox 1180 (located at Level 4). The forms can also be found in the Law Club Room.
Please do not place any nomination forms in the mailbox before or after the nomination period, which runs from 0000 hours on the 15th of August 2016 to 1800 hours on the 20th of August 2016. Non-adherence to this rule will result in the invalidation of said forms, and by extension, the invalidation of those nominations. The Elections Committee will contact all candidates to confirm their nomination by the 21st of August, and announce the candidates accordingly.
The Process
For those unfamiliar with the process, there are two stages to the elections, namely the external and internal elections.
External Elections
For the external elections, the candidates will run for admission into the Management Committee, and not for any specific positions. However, the candidates can choose to highlight their desired positions if they feel that it would aid them in their campaigns. The school will vote accordingly, and the top 10 candidates with the highest votes will then move on to the internal elections round. Should there be exactly 10 candidates or less during the external elections round, the candidates will still have to pass a vote of confidence by the school, i.e. they will each have to garner no less than half of the total number of valid votes cast.
Internal Elections
For the internal elections, the 10 elected candidates will then run for the positions which they desire. The Elections Committee will hold a meeting, where the 10 elected candidates, along with the 10 appointment holders with voting rights from the previous MC, will vote upon which candidate is best suited for the different positions. The candidates will present on their suitability for their desired positions, after which the voting members will then vote for or against the individual. Each candidate will need a simple majority to be elected into their respective positions. Should any candidate not receive the sufficient number of votes for his/her position of choice, he/she can still choose to pitch his/her suitability or another position within the Management Committee.
