In the 𝐍𝐔𝐒 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐫 𝐅𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐞 (𝐃𝐒𝐅𝐏), purpose is meant to be lived out through action, not treated as an abstract idea.

As part of the programme’s 13-week curriculum, all Fellows undertake a compulsory impact team project designed to bring the PEACH pillars of 𝐏𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞 and 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 to life. Through stakeholder engagement, field research and collaboration, Fellows explore real societal challenges and present their capstone proposals at the end of the programme.

One of these projects, 𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭, explored how Singapore could strengthen demand for local produce and food resilience. The team’s early idea of “Silver Farmers in Schools” later inspired a real-world intergenerational farming pilot by Grobrix and Bukit View Primary School that was featured on CNA.

Another project is 𝐅-𝐅𝐈𝐓, a voice-based AI financial health screening prototype helping Singaporeans above 50 years old assess retirement resilience in a trusted and accessible way.

These projects reflect the impact that can be created when experienced leaders are given the space to rethink contribution, apply their experience differently, and collaborate across disciplines in service of society.

We all know that getting sufficient sleep is important. But how important, exactly?

In this month’s 𝐍𝐔𝐒 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐫 𝐅𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐞 (𝐃𝐒𝐅𝐏) lecture preview for senior leaders keen in the programme, Professor Michael Chee from NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine stressed the importance of good sleep and its intrinsic link to health outcomes and well-being.

Beyond the behavioral and physiological aspects of sleep, he also drew our attention to the cultural differences in sleep patterns, offering a global view on longevity.

Prof Chee lends a cutting perspective into how something as granular as one’s daily sleep has a multi-fold impact on one’s ability to thrive in the 100-year life.

If you’re looking to cut through the noise surrounding sleep and longevity science, join fellow senior leaders in the 2nd DSFP cohort this August.

Over 20 senior leaders gathered on 5 May for an exclusive by-invitation-only lecture preview of the 𝐍𝐔𝐒 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐫 𝐅𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐞 (𝐃𝐒𝐅𝐏).

Rather than a typical programme info session, they experienced a glimpse of the intellectual breadth and curiosity-driven learning that defines the DSFP journey.

World-class faculty members including Professors Michael Chee, Khee Poh Lam, Jeremy Lim and Ajay Makhija shared thought-provoking previews of the themes they will be exploring with the 2026 cohort — from the science of sleep and longevity, to the future of cities and sustainability, healthcare systems, and global geopolitical shifts.

What made the afternoon especially energising was also the spirit of inquiry in the room. Curious questions, lively exchanges and thoughtful conversations over tea reflected what many Fellows from the first DSFP cohort have described as one of the most meaningful aspects of DSFP: the opportunity to step beyond one’s professional domain and engage deeply with unfamiliar ideas, perspectives and disciplines.

In a world of increasing complexity and longer lives, lifelong learning is no longer simply about staying current. It is also about broadening how we think, make sense of change, and reimagine contribution in the years ahead.

“The unexamined life is not worth living.” — Socrates

What does that mean, when you might live to 100?

At last month’s 𝐍𝐔𝐒 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐫 𝐅𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐞 (𝐃𝐒𝐅𝐏) preview, Associate Professor Matthew Daniel Walker from the NUS Department of Philosophy offered a glimpse into one of the programme’s most well-received seminar topics.

In the introductory philosophy seminars he led for the first DSFP cohort in 2025, senior leaders explored questions such as: 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺? 𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘥𝘰 𝘸𝘦 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘦 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸? 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴 𝘢 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦 𝘸𝘦𝘭𝘭-𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘥 𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘬 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦, 𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘪𝘧 𝘪𝘵’𝘴 𝘨𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦 𝘢 100-𝘺𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨? 𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘸𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘷𝘪𝘳𝘵𝘶𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘢 𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘦𝘳?

For many accomplished senior leaders, the DSFP was the first time they had the space to step back — not to specialise further, but to explore domains they never had the chance to earlier, to engage in candid conversations without pressure, and to think again about the big questions.

That is the distinctive value of DSFP.

For those who have already submitted their applications, they’ll have the opportunity to meet and interact with our world-class faculty at this week’s special DSFP Lecture Preview.

For those still considering: applications for the 2026 cohort are ongoing, and will close on 𝟓 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔.

If you’ve ever wondered about questions you didn’t have time to ask earlier in life, this might be the moment to return to them.

What started as a conversation in the 𝐍𝐔𝐒 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐫 𝐅𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐞 (𝐃𝐒𝐅𝐏) has now taken root in the real world.

As part of the Seed Capital impact project on food security, a team of Distinguished Senior Fellows (Michael Chin, Richard Bleasdale, Sonny Yuen, Stephen Keys, Fiona Nixon) seeded the idea of “Silver Farmers in Schools” during their engagement with stakeholders.

This week, that idea came to life as an intergenerational farming pilot spearheaded by Grobrix and Bukit View Primary School, as featured on Channel News Asia.

Bringing together senior volunteers, students and tech-enabled urban farming, the pilot is more than growing food. It’s also about growing community and resilience.

This is by design.

As part of their 13-week journey, all DSFP Fellows undertake an impact team project, moving from reflection to real-world action, and leveraging their experience to address societal challenges such as food security.

We look forward to more schools joining the pilot, and seeing more impact ideas from the DSFP take root and grow.

In the 𝐍𝐔𝐒 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐫 𝐅𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐞 (𝐃𝐒𝐅𝐏), senior leaders are given the space to step back from the demands of their careers — to broaden their horizons, explore new domains of knowledge, and re-examine how they think, lead and make sense of the world.

For many, this includes returning to areas they may not have had the time or opportunity to engage deeply with before — from philosophy to human behaviour to emerging technologies.

Join Bill Ang, a Fellow from the first cohort, in a thought experiment from his 𝘗𝘰𝘥𝘤𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘈𝘯𝘤𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴 series, starting with an imagined dialogue with Socrates. Drawing on both the wisdom in ancient philosophy and modern tools, Bill surfaces a timeless tension: the gap between appearing open to challenge and truly being so, and what this reveals about how organisations engage with uncomfortable truths.
