[Summary: To take part in Orbital 26, you will need to form a team of 2, come up with a project idea and submit your application in mid-March.]
Orbital is an optional, self-driven, hands-on, summer project course targeted mainly at year 1 students.
The mission of the course is to give you the opportunity to get some practical experience on software development while granting you academic units (along with other perks such as testimonials and prizes).
You will be working on a software project of your choice in teams of 2.
There are no formal lectures but two mandatory events:
- Lift-off (orientation), 11-18 May, online and with a negotiable schedule in general, submission required.
- Splashdown (project presentation + award ceremony), 26 Aug, physical, submission required.
You are also required to submit a progress report online and evaluate peer teams on a monthly basis.
Otherwise, it is independent learning and software development, under the guidance of our teaching team. (There will also be some optional online workshops at the beginning of the programme.)
Tentatively, the application for Orbital 26 will be open in mid-March.

A few quick notes on eligibility:
You won't be allowed to join Orbital 26 if you are going to
- take part in any internship registered under SoC/CFG for units (via CP3880/CP3200/CP3202/CFG2101), NOC, UG Summer Research Program (CP2107, a.k.a. Odyssey) during summer, or
- complete the introductory software engineering course (CS2103/CS2103T/CS2113/CS2113T) by the end of this semester.
Otherwise, it is generally ok for you to take up other commitments and / or be overseas during (part of) the summer as long as you meet all the required deadlines.
In addition, we generally do NOT accept any students who are in year 3 or above, or teams without any year 1 students.
