They do look good on the resume, but the happiest moments of my life did NOT include:
❌ Making the first million dollars in consulting using the reinvention toolkit
❌ Meeting the Queen of England while producing a business conference for her team at the UK Embassy
❌ Getting the Axiom 2021 Best Business Book medal for “The Chief Reinvention Officer Handbook: How to Thrive in Chaos”
❌ Delivering my 4th TEDx talk
❌ Getting rated as the best speaker at the 2023 National Speakers Association conference
❌ Becoming one of the youngest chaired professors in the world as the Coca-Cola Chaired Professor at IEDC-Bled School of Management
Instead, I felt most alive when:
✅ I grew my own kale for the first time
✅ In the middle of a long overseas trip, I got an audio message from my daughter thanking me for the kind of mom I am and asking me never to doubt that I am not doing enough for her as a working mom (I still re-listen to it when I am down)
✅ My husband taught me how to make the best bulletproof coffee of my life (his is still better)
✅ Our Reinvention Academy graduates posted massive wins (even better - photos hugging another Certified Reinvention Professional they met through our global community)
✅ I went for a walk in my local neighborhood’s park on Monday morning just when everyone left for work, having absolute peace and quiet all to myself (selfish and honest!)
✅ I got to take my parents to Slovenia and brought them to the US this year to spend weeks and weeks together, sharing stories, laughing, and eating tons of lamb (my nomadic roots are talking)
At the end of life, it’s not our possessions, titles, and achievements that matter most - but what we managed to do with them and who we shared them with.
Did we allow adventure into our lives?
Did we take risks?
Did we learn, fail, and grow?
Did we create something good (even if it was just a very creative cup of coffee)?
Did we love?
Money is an incredible tool to finance the impact we crave - and the life we deserve.
Financial freedom does provide a safety net when it’s time to reinvent ourselves…
…and, as data suggest, that’s now every 1-3 years, so yes, we do need to get the financial safeguards to make those jumps….
Money is an incredible method. A tool. A bridge.
It matters. A lot.
But let’s not confuse the tool with the goal.
