The Research and Innovation Center at Amoud University congratulates Mohamed Mohamoud Abdilleh and his co-authors on the publication of their recent research paper. Their study, titled "Using machine learning models to study the magnitude and associated factors of road traffic accidents among bus drivers in Marodijeh Region, Somaliland," has been published in the journal Discover Sustainability.
This research addresses a critical public health and infrastructure challenge: the high burden of road traffic accidents (RTAs). By utilizing both classical statistical methods and machine learning algorithms, the study provides a structured, data-driven analysis of accident risks in the Marodijeh region, offering practical insights for regional safety planning.

Study Highlights:
1. Analytical Approach: The study compared a multivariable binary logistic regression model with five machine learning algorithms. Among these, the Random Forest model achieved the highest predictive performance, with an accuracy of 76.55%.
2. Identification of Key Risk Factors: The research identified several significant contributors to accident occurrence, including mobile phone usage while driving, lack of vehicle fitness certification, vehicle service history, and khat chewing.
3. Policy-Oriented Recommendations: To support progress toward Sustainable Development Goal 3.6 (reducing traffic-related injuries), the authors recommend targeted safety interventions, including stricter enforcement of driving regulations and mandatory, regular vehicle inspections.
