Kuol Manyang Juuk focused on the founding vision of the SPLM, followed by a campus tour. During his morning visit, the advisor toured the university's new multipurpose laboratory facilities, and publicly praised Vice Chancellor Professor Matoc for the ongoing institutional development programs being implemented at the university.
Background on the Guest Speaker
General Kuol Manyang Juuk is a longstanding senior SPLM figure with deep connections to both the Jonglei region and South Sudan's liberation history:
- He is a former high-ranking SPLA zonal commander
- He previously held senior posts including Governor of Jonglei State, national Minister of Roads and Transport, and Minister of Defense and Veteran Affairs
- He was appointed as a Senior Presidential Advisor to President Salva Kiir in March 2020, and is widely recognized as a development-focused, anti-corruption oriented official within the SPLM leadership
🎓 About Dr. John Garang Memorial University
The host institution is one of South Sudan's five public universities, located on the banks of the White Nile in Bor, Jonglei State, roughly 185km north of Juba by road . It was founded in February 2007 as the John Garang Institute of Science and Technology, and later granted full university status as a science and technology focused institution .
